Re: 10 Years of TGEA
Underground feels like a 1.0 song. End of the Lies is an interesting TV on the Radio song with terrible lyrics, Curiosity Kills feels like GGU and would be quite good if the drums weren't so feckless. I also don't mind Twisted Tales. The rest of the album I'd be ok never hearing again. But I will sa...

Re: Jane's addictions best solo??
The Trip Away solo is cool but I can’t agree with that. Three Days is the pinnacle in my opinion. If you believe that, as legend has it, the band recorded Three Days in one take and the footage from Gift is actually the performance of the one take they recorded of the song, then consider that Dave p...

Re: Jane's Addiction "The Great Escape Artist" - personal review
TGEA has a few interesting moments. Underground sounds like Jane's 1.0 to me. The lyrics are a bit corny, sure, but the groove is there. The bassline sounds like something EA would stomp the ground to. Dave's guitar solos are genuinely inspired. Curiosity Kills has moments I like. It actually remind...

Re: MoPop Alice in Chains (Dave)
Dave is such a good guitar player. Remarkable how easy he makes it look. He does look really skinny though. I hope that's not cause for concern.

Did Embrace the Darkness leak beyond that 10 second clip from Dark Matter?

Re: Ritual Rocktober LP re-release
Indeed! The overall mix is just terrible, the typical 80's sound isn't helping. Bass and drums needs to be tighter and more prominent. It just sounds like it's recorded in a box. No air, no depth. Killer album though, I listened to it again earlier today  Yeah, I mean it still fucking rips....

Re: Strays early version?
When are we going to have another exiting leak? I remember the first time I listened to the Strays early leak. Is there anything exiting that will ever happen again in the world of "Jane's Addiction?" Is there a 'new song' from 1989 that we will eve hear? What has Stephen Perkin's been doing during...

Re: Strays early version?
Bring the Mood isn't great, but it feels alive. Dave's guitar playing has those nice bursts of frantic energy. Perkins stays on his toes. I agree with this- it's centered around a bassline so Dave and Perk are able to stretch out and be loose on this one. Hey wait, that seems like a good creative a...

Re: Strays early version?
I can relate a little. I got in to all of this in 1993-94 when I was 14-15 years old. A LOT of fans had already written Perry off. When GGU came out I remember all of the OG fans I knew saying "I told you he lost it," whereas I was head over heels for that album. It was my first day 1 Perry related...

Thanks for that.....it explains your perspective perfectly....when I read shit like "I skip song three on strays" a vein on the side of my head starts thumping...since Im not sure I even bought strays let alone set up a playlist of repeated listening lol....but ah yes perspective...I started with t...

Re: Strays early version?
Man, I took a trip down memory lane with these today. Bob Ezrin really did ruin what could have been a mediocre album. Let's be honest. While his production was dead wrong for this album, the band was already creatively bankrupt. While there was still some element of Jane's there, it was flee...

Re: What new(can be old band ) music are you digging
A friend turned me onto Nnamdi, a Chicago musician. Absolutely insane range of sounds and the guy is clearly a multi-instrumental genius. This album is inspired by the Looney Tunes soundtrack guy. I saw it described as a the Space Jam soundtrack if Dennis Rodman had been the star and not MJ. https:/...

Re: 30 Years of Ritual
Ritual is four years older than me and it's still one of the most important albums of my life. My dad turned me onto Jane's when I was 9. I hated NS the first few listens through but at one point, Had a Dad clicked with me and I became obsessed. So we went to Rasputins' record store and got Ritual....

Re: 30 Years of Ritual
Eric was pretty complimentary of Perry, while critical about some of his own behavior during 1.0. Pretty interesting that Eric and Ronnie Champagne both mention Perry dictating melodies in studio. Revives the old debate of how much of the songwriting was Perry responsible for. I never would have gu...

Re: Great Escape Artist followup
I've been listening to a lot of old Jane's and Porno recently (That's why I came to this forum to see what's up). I haven't even heard TGEA and would only imagine that any new album from Jane's right now would suck balls. Perry's turned into Liberace, it's been happening before our eyes for years. ...

Original music / gear
I know we've done variants of this thread before, but I'm curious about what people play and how they play it. I got into Jane's when I was 9, which is now 17 years ago. Wild. Their music has been a bit of a guiding force for me in terms of my own sound, but my own music also takes a lot of after Pr...

Re: Great Escape Artist followup
I think Perry wanted that too as some point, but he's too goofy to sell out correctly.  That's so fucking true. And I'd find it hard to believe that Perkins has been playing so standardly only because of Ezrin. To me, someone who actually studied him quite profoundly at some point, it fe...

Re: Great Escape Artist followup
Well, here's what I think: -I would love to have a follow-up to TGEA. I think it's a pretty good album, even with it flaws. I always prefer having the bands that I love releasing albums. Having said that... -I would like it if it has a rock vibe. No female vocals, no corky songs (like some of the K...

Re: Maybe the best original JA news since 2009
I'm actually tempted by the book. I have been coming across quite a lot of vintage JA photographs on Instagram recently, some of which I had never seen before, and it's been....really nice. Perhaps a strange choice of words, but it's helpful to reconnect with the memory of who and what I fell in lo...
