Re: Politics

Booker's got a confirmed groping in his past though doesn't he? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2018/09/21/in-1992-cory-booker-admitted-to-groping-a-high-school-classmate-and-issued-a-call-for-sexual-respect/?utm_term=.a4c233484719 This would be a non-issue with a swing voter, bu...

Re: Politics

I can see how someone who isn't racist might have voted for an already racist candidate. But I can't see how anyone who isn't racist could vote for him again and still not be racist. Voting for Trump in 2020 will be a racist act whether anyone likes it or not. Listen to Steve Bannon. Whether this "...

Re: Politics

Even then, I don't really see how that works. People are fed up. Yeah, populism is dangerous, but I really don't see how we avoid an elitist backlash with people being more and more squeezed. I really don't see a wave of pragmatism sweeping the nation. Maybe the view is different from up there. :lo...

Re: Politics

I'll admit that Moore is an opportunist, but he was right about Trump very early on, and he is right about 2020. With the electoral college, if rural issues, such as quality jobs, quality healthcare, addressing the opioid crisis and quality education for the rural working class isn't addressed; Tru...

Re: Politics

We've had celebrity candidates win every presidential election, with the exeption of HW Bush, for the last 40 years. Why would that change now? If anything, it is just astronomically more imperative to be a celebrity. If Democrats put up boring policy person or person who does not dominate the media...

These are some of the dems that I think will take the field in '20 Beto Gillum Harris Gillibrand Sanders Warren Biden Cuomo Holder Booker is a big deal. Also, Fox News must think so too, because they're using Michael Moore to suggest that Americans don't like him enough. https://www.foxnews.com/ent...

Re: Killing Joke

Went to the show last night in Portland. It was the third time I've seen them and would have to say it was the cleanest performance I have seen them do! I hadn't been to the Star Theater, but it was sold out, definitely packed, I was concerned about that, and it was really, really loud. Jaz's voice ...

Re: Killing Joke

That's fantastic! I will be shocked if this happens....... The Star theater in Portland is a hole in the wall.....you could maybe fit a hundred people in there. That will probably be sufficient as well. https://portlandscramble.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/star-theater.jpg?w=3...

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

I think the biggest mistake that liberals, and the truly alarmed, out there make, and we make it often, is treating Trump as a singularity. Like getting rid of him would get rid of the problem. Maybe briefly it would but he is just a nasty symptom of a huge disease. I think that to truly address the...

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

I'm not usually a big fan of David Brooks, but I think his notion on what's to come is tragically right on. It's a scary time. :noclue: https://static01.nyt.com/images/2018/03/06/opinion/06brooksWeb/merlin_134932824_ddff12d9-6351-4d31-9dad-fceb366f24ea-master768.jpg The Chaos After Trump nytimes Wha...

I dont see how a politician beats trump in 2020.

System of checks and balances is a thread away from being non-existent, if not already dead.

Re: Donald Trump running for President.

There is no doubt that trump is very "dumb" in the conventional sense. But as far as manipulating the media and political foes (pretty much anyone who engages with him) he is extremely effective in his stagecraft. Its terrifying more than anything. I can't beleive that is completely random. How awar...
