Re: Dave's Return?

Was the last tour in 'standard'? He can't have played with them since they were tuning down so they may just be old tour stickers.

Re: Dave's Return?

Oh of course, I forgot about the 24h thing.

That actually makes more sense, given the situation. A cautious, indirect 'leak' instead of a fanfare.

That is really encouraging!

I'll be at the Roundhouse on Monday :thumb:

It would have been great to get to Barrowlands, my friend was keen as he says "the Scots crowd really go for it".

Re: Porno For Pyros 2023 tour thread.

+1 for SYTBS The production was a bit dated even for its time. Not many rock artists get the transition into electronica right. But Perry's record had just enough quirkiness and sparkly-eyed new-age goodwill to make it endearing to me. There are a few moments which even make me feel quite emotional....

Re: Janes Management Forbes Article

The philosophy sounds good.

They should be more transparent with the fans though. There's a balance to be struck between protecting the brand(s) and embracing the interests of the audience that ultimately pay for it.

Re: "Produced by Dave Jerden and Perry Farrell"

To my mind the producer's role is mainly about having a vision for the project and the resources / contacts / budget (brought or negotiated) to realise that vision. It doesn't necessarily require technical knowledge of the studio, that's what the recording, mix and mastering engineers are for; BUT r...

Re: Navarro: What makes him great?

I've been stuck in with Covid myself this week, but a friend kindly posted a copy of Whores (the book) over to keep me amused. It's revealing about Dave as a person (well, everyone really). I found his family background really interesting, with this looming patriarchal figure overshadowing their liv...

Good footage - great to see the 50 yr-olds moshing and crowd surfing! :thumb: Doing my homework, the Palladium is a similar size to Brixton Academy (currently closed after 2 people died in a crush). Now, if only they would come to Koko or Shepherd's Bush for a festival warm up this summer... :rockon...

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

Those Twitter clips Creep posted felt lacklustre. There seems to be a lack of chemistry between the band and JK.

I can't see it lasting. And if they do stick with him, might have to concede to playing smaller audiences.

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

Not bad. It reminded me of Bob Marley, dipped in Songs Yet To Be Sung. I did wonder if it would be something low-key, possibly Eric playing acoustic on Jane Says, and then on this. The guitar role sounded under-developed. Not convinced by JK. Difficult to place such a mellow song in the rest of the ...

This thread started from a fans perspective of why Dave's great then turned into wondering why anyone considers Dave great.

Re: Smashing Pumpkins + Jane's - Australia

People seem to respect Josh as a person, someone who contributes positive attitude to a situation.

The way the Chilis ditched him was quite disrespectful. It is a slightly odd role that he's fallen into though.

Re: Navarro: What makes him great?

Personal favourite is No One's Leaving. It doesn't sound like any other guitarist (that I know of) and Dave doesn't simply play a version of the bassline with extra licks Yeah, No One's Leaving is a total banger. I don't know of it appearing in the early sets, is it a later written song? Also, his ...

Hoka - reading your response it dawned on me that I had never really listened to One Hot Minute beyond the singles, so it's blasting out as I write. Re: Navarro: What makes him great?

Your mistake here is speaking in the present tense. When is the last time Dave did anything you’re describing? That's a point worth digging into. See, I think it depends what he is working with. I know it doesn't necessarily have writing chronology, but the first three tracks on TGEA have some inte...

Navarro: What makes him great?

Dave Navarro, he's a fucking great guitar player. Over his run with JA you can say that: 1. He knows when to lock in as a rhythm player and when to take off as a lead player. 2. He knows when a song will benefit from NOT soloing (e.g. Then She Did - I clearly remember him saying in an interview how ...

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread

It would be all too easy to take the piss out of Dave Navarro's stage image. Troy did a great job IMO and, by the sounds of it, stepped in at short notice.

Dave is a really fine guitarist, one of my all time favourites - purely because of his work in JA. I'm gonna start a thread in his honour.

Thing I like the most about 'The Regency' is the guitar work. The thing I like the most about 'Comments' is the bass line. Imagine if those two guys were in a band together, that would be really cool.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread

I don't think this clip has been shared here yet, this follows the Josh Klingon Three Days performance, with Mt.
