Re: Been Caught Stealing - 1990 Pro TV Master

Last time (I think) Jane's played Jools was when they were touring Strays in November '03. They did Just Because and one other, probably Stealing. They did JB acoustic / stripped back / unplugged style. I quite enjoyed it at the time. In hindsight, it might have been the start of the rot setting in ...

Re: New Perk interview [VIDEO]

I bet you even after the Tell all Perry would welcome Avery back. Not that it would happen. Can you imagine that tension on stage! The weird part is, and the videos I've seen seem to bear this out, neither Eric nor Perry appear to have had any problems with each other on stage throughout the reunio...

Re: Halloween '97 soundcheck (full)

iirc Dave got himself back using during the course of that tour, so wouldn't have been a factor for Avery deciding not to join. Dunno about Perry. Dave answered the stage position thing a few years ago, can't remember where - basically for relapse he and Flea instinctively went to the stage position...

Re: Ritual Performance

maybe this has been mentioned -- i haven't read every post in this thread -- has there been a jane's addiction show since the earliest year or two where they didn't play ted, 3 days or then she did? On the Strays tour, or at least the show I went to (Nottingham, UK), we didn't get 3 days or then sh...

Re: Riffing With

On the out-takes thing, if we're talking about 1.0 wouldn't they need Eric's permission to release anything (unless, I suppose, they did the Ozzy thing and had Chaney re-record the bass)? I was sure that it came out that Eric had discovered relatively recently that he had veto on exploitation of the...

Everyday's a school day - I always thought So What was like Kettle Whistle - a fully formed "1.0" offcut that was written 'back in the day' and recorded in 97. Had no idea it was substantially new in 97..

Re: Perry the Bass Player -- Words from Mike Watt

Eric/Martyn/Flea/Watt/Chaney writes a bassline, Perry tells him to play one note, in the entire run, higher or lower.
Did Jane's write anything new during Flea's tenure?

Re: Perry the Bass Player -- Words from Mike Watt

Also figured those little anecdotes would start some interesting conversation seeing as much of the talk around here nowadays is debating whether Perry ever had any real writing ability or if he was just at hte right place at the right time. Ok, I'll bite: I wonder what Martyn's perspective on some...

Re: New JA in Dobel ad?

My money is on this being Jane's music. Remember how cut and paste Another Soulmate sounded? I bet they have all sorts of jams recorded for Perry to put lyrics to whenever he gets around to it. So Perry cuts some shit up, throws some vocals over it, it doesn't get used because none of them think it...

Re: Bono don't know Perry

To me, U2's single "Vertigo" has always sounded like a weak imitation of (Strays era) Jane's. In fact, in my head, I can hear Perry singing it..

Personally, if I was going to copy (or "pay homage") to Jane's, that's probably not the era I'd look to, but there you go..

Dave was just being a gentleman I'm sure that's true, whether he believed what he was saying or not. DN doesn't seem to say anything negative about other musicians and their talents, even people he's not on good personal terms with - he'll still say what a great band the chillis are, was consistent...

Good to see people finally clueing in on how much of janes was avery Is this new? I thought that was the standard narrative on Jane's? You see, where I have some respect for Perry (and to some extent Dave and Steve) is that they were taking a big risk with their artistic credibility when Eric rejoi...

I recall a proper set of freaks being at the back for the Nottingham show Yay! I was one of them! I'd agree with some of the other posts about this - those late 2003 UK club shows were a brief return to form and pretty special, and I'm sure a lot of that is due to what was obvious tension within th...

The Beatles: A pretty big deal back in the day, but nowadays people are listening to their music and a lot of them are wondering what the big deal is? Yup best guess is that Underground is a PF composition.... at least in this version... http://we.tl/Pb4g8eRsv8 http://janesaddiction.org/tour/show/perry-farrell/2009-04-19/1988/ Wow, this says a lot about Jane's "creativity", because it's exactly clear what the composition process was like: Step 1:...

Re: The Legacy Of Jane's Addiction: A Thread.

I think one of the reasons Jane's doesn't have "legacy" impact is down to a huge amount of what made them great being how incredibly good they were live. Some bands do their best work in the studio, some do it on stage in front of an audience. Much as I love the albums, there isn't a song on them th...

As a comparison, does anyone have an idea the sort of money one used-to-be-famous guitarist makes for a solo "appearance" - like the sort of nightclub things Dave was doing with that DJ ("Skribble?") after the last break-up? Trying to work out in my head how long the diminishing brand value of Jane'...

I think Dave was more fan of Steve Vai and Malmsteen. Instrumental guitar-heroes rock. I'm sure I remember Dave mentioning Vai in an interview back in the day, but his professed influences were a lot broader than pure "shredding" although of course he came from a metal band prior to Jane's - Daniel...

While you'll never get a consensus on which album's best / worst / somewhere in the middle, I think it's hard to argue that OHM isn't the chilli's most INTERESTING album to date. Dave brought something new and different to RHCP, the only guitarist to do so since the start - Fru was a massive Hillel ...
