Re: Now Watching...

Finished the three-part mini-series The Casual Vacancy (HBO) last night. I enjoyed it. Strong, compelling performance by Abigail Lawrie. I came upon this series by accident, having neither heard of it nor Lawrie. Emily Nussbaum's review: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/05/04/queens-boulevard...

Democratic Debates

I decided to create a debate thread to keep it separate from the campaign thread. The first debate will span two nights: Wednesday June 26th and Thursday June 27th. The first debate, sponsored by NBC News, MSNBC, and Telemundo, will take place on June 26 and 27 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET at the Adrie...

Just read the first chapter of The Uninhabitable Earth. So I watched season 5 of Black Mirror (3 episodes). It's very disappointing.
What did you think of Bandersnatch?
I haven't seen it. :noclue:

It got lukewarm reviews, but I'm enjoying McEwan's latest novel.

Re: Now Watching...

Just finished the Broadchurch series. All three seasons are on Netflix (8 episodes each season). Great series; strong writing and acting. Olivia Colman is fabulous. This is the first time I have seen her in anything. (I know she is in the movie The Favorite, but I haven't seen it yet.)

Re: Game of Thrones (HBO)

This guy gives a critique and and alternate ending for GOT. It's worth watching/listening. His rewrite starts at 4:43. If you don't want to watch the whole thing I suggest you jump to 10:30. Some features: -The Night King is linked to the Children of the Forest -Jon Snow dies -Dany is pregnant, bend...

Re: Naomi Wolf Learns On-Air That Her Book Is Wrong

I've been talking about this all day. The copy editing process at academic presses is, or rather, use to be more rigorous. Larry, both you and SR are right; fact-checking falls primarily on the authors (and is usually stipulated in their contracts).
