Coronavirus Cases: 1,009,699 view by country Deaths: 52,855 Any bets for for long before we hit 10 million? I'm going to say by the end of April. I'm not deep into the statistical models but if you are including non-symptom/mild reveal cases, wouldnt you say we are there already.....? Those million...

Re: Coronavirus

I'd be doubtful anything in North America will start going even remotely "back to normal" (in terms of reopening things and actually allowing people to congregate) until at least the end of May. It will probably be 2 or 3 years before the after-effects have more-or-less subsided. 854,000 cases now....

It says in the beginning who he is. As to whether what he's saying is nonsense I can't judge, I'm no expert. You'd think he knows quite a lot about the subject given he holds the job he does There's something odd about it. He's not an MD. He's a PhD in biochemistry who works in biotech / drug disco...

Re: Coronavirus

Ok, maybe I wasn't a complete idiot, from Wikipedia: Treatment (H5N1) Further information: Flu research There is no highly effective treatment for H5N1 flu, but oseltamivir (commercially marketed by Roche as Tamiflu), can sometimes inhibit the influenza virus from spreading inside the user's body. ...

Re: Coronavirus

I don't think it's that simple at all. You'd see a whole other level of panic and chaos . Many more people would get sick than now, not "just" primarily the elderly and sick and there'd soon be shortages of food and medicine and gas etc and the world would become an increasingly very very dangerous...

Re: Coronavirus

Imagine if H5N1 happens :yikes: Now would actually be a decent time to have a dangerous strain of the flu pop up. For one thing, half the word is shut down and no one is traveling. For another, we’re all already artificially limiting contact with each other. They’re seeing expected numbers of fever...

Re: Coronavirus

Three quarters of a million recorded cases and 35,000 deaths.

But social distancing measures appear to be working, so imagine what things would have looked like if we hadn't done anything!

Sort of "good news" for B.C. that helps justify what we're all doing: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/british-columbia/article-bc-should-have-enough-beds-and-ventilators-for-covid-19-patients/ They think that the social distancing measures have actually helped keep things at a manageable leve...

Re: Coronavirus

Yeah the mortality rate will fall when all is said done. This phrase is a bit strange to me... it's like... "when people stop dying, we'll see that people aren't dying anymore." About 3.5% of infected people will die. A huge percentage of infected people about 80 will die. If countries don't take r...

Re: Coronavirus

The hand waving needs to stop, but so do the hysterics. It’s not hysterics. The United States is actively sabotaging its own health on a countrywide scale. Go to any hospital right now and you’ll see the effect it’s having. Stop telling people they’re hysterical because you personally haven’t seen ...

Re: Coronavirus

You need to stop now. It's not a joke. This is not a "weaker" virus. Polio wasn't particularly deadly for children (though it was for adults), and was deadly generally because of paralysis. But it still changed the world to not have to worry about it anymore. This new virus is dangerous because it's...

Dont compare this to the flu
What? It has a higher death rate and much higher transmissibility than the seasonal flu (as far as we can currently tell). And no good treatment if you get pneumonia.

It's a super low amount of people are dying from this
Again, the case death rate for the 1918 flu was 5%. It seems low, until half the world is infected. What's 5% of half of the world?

Re: Coronavirus

The problem is that the federal response by the United States is absolutely being catastrophically mishandled. And the states and major cities are being held hostage by a sociopathic President who wants a quid pro quo for federal help right now. That isn't sensationalism. You can watch what actually...
