Re: Keith Olbermann fired again

I've read that he's a nightmare to work with and has a ridiculously massive ego. Last time he was on Letterman he said he's banned from the ESPN campus which was backed by an ESPN employee.

Can we just call "Applause for You Perry" Berry instead so there's distinction between the two?

You're right about this. We have a different visceral reaction to what you could paraphrase as "better living through chemistry". I don't recoil at the idea of treating, augmenting or otherwise engaging with our flawed bodies in ways that may produce beneficial results for individuals or society. I...

would end federal government intervention in to the lives of homosexuals etc. But not State! Fuck that! :waits: Right, which is good, because when states have the right to declare gay marriage legal and nothing the feds do can supercede that we're going to be in good shape. Just like drug leg...

Re: Woodstock of atheists

I think we can be tactful/sensitive about it, sometimes. Other times, when the matter is more pressing (e.g., issues of blatant injustice/harm against individuals) I think we ought to be loud and devastating in our opposition to it. I think it is similar to other rights issues -- I have at times th...

Your on line in the bank, a armed robber comes in to hold up the bank. You pull out your permitted gun & shoot the robber. Justified. This couldn't be more wrong. And ironically, FL is one of the few states that what you're saying may be true and this is because of the Stand your Ground law. ...

Re: Rick Santorum wants to ban porn

My initial comment was just based on a recollection of some important legislation that got passed and his general "tenor" in office (he feels more "presidenty" than Bush ever did...). That latter thing may be superfluous... but I kinda like it anyway. I like knowing the USA has a professor in charg...

Stand your ground was/is not necessary. It makes for vigilantism Please provide evidence for your claim that this law specifically results in vigilantism. I'd also like to know why you obviously see this as a bad thing. Explain. What's funny is that you then attempt to explain how Justifiable Homic...

flordia is one of the few states where it is easy to get a concealed weapon permit. you can't do that where i live. The concealed permit wasn't the issue here. Stand Your Ground isn't a bad law either. It simply says if someone is trying to kill you or inflict great bodily harm you're within your r...

I had a big response typed out but it's pointless. Most of what Obama has been accomplished he can scant take credit for or it's being overstated. For instance, I don't know too many gay rights advocates pleased with his DOMA record. There was hope for much more. If your'e a leftist he's done next ...

Re: Trayvon Martin

Bottom line is Zimmerman killed an unarmed person. Further more an unarmed 17 yr old. One of the things that concerns me is that this has become almost only about race and really what matters is someone was murdered no other way to put it. We can't forget about that. Race probably played a part in ...

Requiring that jurors NOT be high or drunk is also mandatory. And it's not all that different. One requires them not to be chemically intoxicated, and one requires them to be chemically intoxicated at the hands of a government official. Not all that different? I suppose the logic is that...

Re: Woodstock of atheists

People tend to dislike atheists because they whine about things like "In God we Trust" on money. No one cares. Shut up. If atheists pay the same taxes as other religious people than we atheists have as much right to separation of church and state as them. Believe me, if money said "In God we DON"T ...

Worries about dystopian mind-control ought to be considered, as should issues of losing track of concepts like individual responsibility and self-control, but we aren't talking about such issues here. We're talking about mandatory drugging of jurors, a responsibility that is also mandatory. Are you...

There was a show on for awhile called "Locked Up Abroad" (I think) and was full of these types of stories. Terrifying stuff. It's like my worst nightmare. I'd rather be dead.
