Re: NME Awards - Ten Years On
It's funny that between 2008 and 2012, a lot of their contemporaries reunited as well. Sort of funny, although the spate of bands with a long history of "we're never getting back together" getting back together within a year or two of a massive global financial crash is, imho, far from coincidental...

trulio disgracias. haven't heard about that night of madness in a very very long time. does norwood still sometimes put that together out in LALA land? I recall a tour around 93 I guess that came thru new York. it had Thelonious monster with frusciante, and norwood and all sorts of other madness. bo...

hey that was fun and good. welcome to our little community which for you, I think, defines irony. you're working so hard to perform these great songs and have joined a forum where all we do is lament how much jane's disappoints us and especially how funny perry's teeth are.

Their voices really don't go together too well. Perry actually sounded pretty good there. :noclue: this. Ed wasn't really singing in any sort of duet with Perry. he just seemed to love the song, know all the words, so he sang. PJ played it like a song they grew up listening to really loud. perry so...

1BGU5I4w-Io Lockn has taken over from bonnaroo as the summer deadhead fest. Joe Russo's Almost Dead is a terrific GD cover band. Bienvento/Russo was/is a superb jazz duo that i saw for years in New Orleans. Russo has always reminded me of Perkins in a number of ways, primarily that he bangs hard, p...

"Make it new." -- Ezra Pound Having said that, my guess is that there are quite a few older bands that you haven't yet explored deeply. Most of us here kept living for a JA experience at least thru 91, and to a large extent for the P4P years that followed, because reunion and new music seemed possib...

IMO the Strays era shows were bad. I saw them at Irving Plaza and on the Lolla 03 tour that year. They looked bored at lolla. I don't like any of the Strays era stuff on youtube either. It just seems like something is off. The TGEA tour, Ninja tour, and 25th anny tours were much better shows. The L...

It looked and sounded better than the ritual show i saw here in ny. Which isn't to say I'll be buying it or even making any effort to watch it. But if then she did is posted on youtube, count me in.

This may be old news. Showtime has a documentary called Burn Motherfucker Burn about civil unrest in L.A. and the relationship between blacks and the LAPD. It opens with an old interview with an Dixie bigot described as an 8th generation plantation owner talking about how they viewed negroes as 'pet...

If you don't know every note plus a live tape from each touring cycle of radiohead, just immerse yourself in that for a while. Hopefully they're not done, so 4-5 years from now LP 10 will come out and they'll tour again and it will remain the best thing out there. If you missed Frank Zappa, cure tha...

Respectfully disagree. Trujillo is/was an influence on Metallica and so many others, and from the moment he joined, became an essential part of their live act (of which i'm a guilty pleasure admirer and frequent attendee - haven't listened to them outside of gigs more than a few times in all these y...

Kudos on the many funny quips and 'lyrics' on this thread. One tiny little defense of PF on the subject of politics. Back in '04, the year kerry lost to the young Bush, moveon.org was new and did incredible work almost getting rid of W. They had a fundraiser at the Hammerstein that was really good. ...

Years ago the first time he was with them, i went, just to see eric play. My ex-wife was a garbage fan anyway. Shirley is indeed a riveting front woman. Eric wasn't terribly animated. But he sounded great and was very high in the mix.

wowza. thanks bman. been a while since I listened to that show.
also, that's as clear a recording of that legendarily great tape as I think I've heard.
anyone (feek?) know where the definitive lossless perfect recording is (besides in perkins' steal your face covered mancave)?

My recollection is also orgasm or porpoise head to start NYC shows but I don't recall that much about those two at Irving except that they played for an hour or less and were amazingly powerful. But the first one at roseland definitely opened with orgasm and the crowd was a swirl the likes of which ...

Bash bman all you like for defending jane's, but the people calling him out for expecting courtesy from the venue with regard to ticket entry and/or for lighting up a roach ('hey man that's illegal') are, in my view, not making legitimate arguments and are odd choices as such esteemed published hate...

a moon shaped pool is just a round pool. fuck those guys. Did Bettye LaVette perform, or did I hear of a 2nd show? Yes and she was great. She sang 'it ain't easy', a song that Bowie and she both covered in 1972. I should have included her in the list of better performances. And there is a 2nd show, tonite, at radio city. A few different acts and a lot of ...

Great performance. One of my favorite albums ever. I remember anticipating it and going to Tower of Records the day it came out and buying two copies; one on cassette tape for my car because I could not wait to get home to hear it. I kept on driving past my house to hear all of it and feeling so mu...
