Re: Is this finally the second coming of the Stone Roses?

Overall, I like it. It doesn't strike me as some big, groundbreaking classic but it's got a good, catchy guitar hook. Yep, same here. I like the guitars, but find the lyrics kinda lame. Am enjoying it. Am a fan of some of Ian's solo work, and try not to think too hard while listening. If I do, it m...

Re: The Panama Papers

Didn't get much coverage today by National Public Radio here int he US (at least while I was listening). I thought this story would have a lot more legs, and be the topic for some time to come.

webhosting....

I need a .com for a small press. I'm leaning toward WordPress to create the site, but am unsure how to find a web host or differentiate their services. It's likely I'll just have the one site for now, and I want to pay as little as I can, at least initially, as I don't anticipate much traffic, but s...

Re: Meditation

My attempt to get clean back in 1994 led me to Santa Cruz where I lived in a halfway house with a bunch of ex cons, dope fiends, and one frat boy. I found a book there called "We're All Doing Time" by Bo Lozoff. It was written by Bo Lozoff, a man who started something called the Prison Ashram Projec...

Re: The Walking Dead (AMC)

Eh, it was kinda sorta OK. The Rick and Daryl parts were good. Deanna was last seen screaming at an oncoming hoarde of walkers after shooting several of them. They would have eaten her, so it doesn't make sense that her reanimated corpse would be stumbling around in the forest completely intact. Ri...

These are pretty cool. Are there more? I'd like to hear Summertime Rolls and Three Days. A cursory search turns up Katy Perry, but no.....Perry.

At Christmas time we bought my 14 y.o. a record player. She'd been wanting one, but I wasn't convinced it would be used as we've got Spotify and....she's 14. I bought her a recent Bowie compilation--Nothing Has Changed--because I couldn't find Ziggy on Vinyl. Anyway, she played it nonstop. I asked h...

Re: Where we're born, versus where we're supposed to be

My father has always told me that when he was in his teens, he always knew two things: he wasn't going to keep doing the "Jew thing" (my lineage is Jewish, but my parents found their groove with Unitarianism) and he was "getting the hell out of New York" (they bailed from Williamsburg and Queens an...

I loved my Nissan Murano company car a few years back. It was very comfortable, had a great sound system, and I felt like the car didn't advertise anything in particular. My wife made the most recent decision on cars since I don't have a company car anymore. I thought she'd be doing way more driving...

Apparently Pete and Perry wrote a song for Kind Heaven this weekend. The four of them haven't ever really wanted what it is we once wanted.

I'm sticking with it. Hopefully it will get stronger. I know that certain seasons of TWD suffered because of budgetary reasons, and I feel as if this show is being made with very little money. For example, scripting the riot scene as they did with the characters taking shelter and only hearing and f...

Funny. We've never met, Larry, but I thought about you today when I heard the news. I also thought, "I think he's in the UK with his new wife..." Glad you're safe. I was also really impressed with how well Chile responded. I think we'll get up further up the coast i.e. pacific northwest very soon.

lyrics sheets onstage

Some of you have mentioned that Perry is using lyric sheets onstage presumably to not mess up a song he's singing. I saw Social Distortion in Portland on Saturday (for the 6th or 7th time), and a guy would run out between songs and tape sheets of paper (presumably lyrics) down by the mic stand. I wa...

I shared this on Facebook today. I'm amazed by the backlash she received. At the core, she's attempting to raise awareness of the disparity between black lives in America and white lives in America. Nearly daily we hear about an injustice done to a black person in the US. Yes, there are injustices d...

I bought Soaked In Bleach last night and watched it, not worth the 14.99 I spent. Nothing new that hasn't been out there since Kurt died. The only thing that sets this apart is Tom Grant's tapes of conversations with Courtney when she hired him to find Kurt and his conversations with the Cobain's a...

I watched it, and really enjoyed it. I liked the season overall. It's hard to compare to Season 1 because they've got completely different issues. I am really enjoying this season. I think the critical lens with which people are judging it is largely unreasonable. Consider how implausible so much of House of Cards is, but it seems to get a pass. Sunday's episode was great. The connection between the two orphans from the Jewelry robbery and Cas...
