Through my high school lens, Joshua Tree was the album that introduced U2 to everyone else, and suddenly short little ponytails were everywhere at my high school.SR wrote:I know what 'made' them, and I know JT is universally understood to be their masterpiece, but for me U2 is October, Boy and War.

Love Actually is irreverent enough that I enjoy watching it with my wife. It's very British.

Re: Just saw Eric Avery live
I'm still kicking myself for not seeing him/them when they visited Seattle a few months ago. I'm not a huge Garbage fan, but I know enough of their songs that I would have enjoyed it--especially to see Eric on stage. At the time, I don't think I could find evidence that he was touring with them.

Glitch (Australian Series) and Eric Avery (Doppelganger
I've enjoyed the first season of Glitch on Netflix. Not quite a zombie show, but very much in the vein of The Returned (original French show). All that aside, I can't help but think the main actor, Patrick Brammal looks like a younger Eric Avery. I think he could play Eric when we get the Jane's Add...

Didn't know them when...I wasn't listening to hip hop, but my wife turned me onto them more recently. Listened to the new album in its entirety yesterday and was really impressed. Good stuff is an understatement.

Best news for me was watching Diane (Kelly Macdonald) in the trailer. I knew Diane was back in the book, but didn’t know she was was back in the movie. https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRhgRBaABm-XPgnjOr_D5k3LyJbLJB4l9l02riEYlR9b_BRDMIH3JdSk3X_ And she would still get it. I enjoyed the first episode. Given how much exposition has to happen to orient the average view, I thought they did a good job. And the very last moment was perfectly executed. You know it can only get better from here. I never saw the original movie. I worked in a video store when I was 15, and it ...

Beware of some muricans too, especially with alcohol and firearms. I'd have a drink too, but that wouldn't end well.
Enjoy.

The Night Of (HBO)
Did I miss a thread for this? Wife and I loved this show. It was devastating. What's interesting about it is that novelist Richard Price was the writer for the show, and while I always struggled with his novels I think he does a lot to make this feel authentic. Authentic NYC--and there is a quality ...

Very impressive you're seeking authors who fall outside the so-called mainstream and looking to give them a means to get their work out there. Are you sticking to a certain (non-fiction) genre such as social subjects or is it anything goes? Thanks, Panda. Not sticking to a particular genre. There w...

publishing a book
So, about two years ago I left a large publishing house to return to teaching, and developed an interest in starting my own press. Originally, I thought I'd publish my novel, or the work of friends like Ferlinghetti did with City Lights. In any case, a manuscript came my way, and it gave me a focus....

I think it has aged pretty well. "pretty well"!? :yikes: it's a timeless masterpiece another example of how "not bad" can mean "very good" :) :thumb: Truth is, when I first heard it I was just getting clean, and didn't have a high opinion of it. I was thinking whatever thread ran through the songs ...

Good God's Urge 20 years old yesterday
Good God's Urge came out when I was living in Santa Cruz. It took a while to grow on me, but I think it has aged pretty well. Decent write up here: http://diffuser.fm/porno-for-pyros-good-gods-urge-anniversary/ And the cover is reminiscent of when Perry involved himself in assemblage. While not near...
