Re: Broken People

i hate all 3 songs that they wrote with Duff. what does that say about me? My least faves on the new record too. Broken People is IMHO the worst song in their entire catalog. How anyone can listen to Superhero and say that is beyond me. It's not the greatest song, but it's not cringe inducing. I ca...

Re: The guitar player thread

I play mostly rock/funk and rock/soul originals when I'm writing with others and just whatever comes out when I'm recording on my own. My gear: 1990 Les Paul Standard 2005 Fender Highway 1 Stratocaster (sold my '88 American Standard years ago and love the HW1 more) Ovation Acoustic Epiphone SG style...

Altered States is one of my faves. When I was a kid I somehow got my hands on a copy of Crimes of Passion. Not as trippy as some of his others but definitely another good.

Never heard of these two you posted Pandemonium. Thanks. Just added Gothic my Netflix queue. The Devils wasn't listed.

Re: So, uh, seen any good movies lately?

Watched a bunch of stuff via Netflix this weekend: PJ20 - very cool doc on Pearl Jam directed by Cameron Crowe. Lots of footage and tracks I've never seen/heard (I'm not a die-hard PJ fan) and really cool insight into the band and how they've kept it together through the years Blue Valentine - the p...

Re: Ipod on random or whole CD

For bands that are my old school faves and I already have their back catalog in a hard format I continue to buy CDs but for most new artists I've gotten into I've bought their music on iTunes. I always buy full albums and have never purchased single songs. I love my iPod and the ability to carry aro...

Hope you all have a great holiday.

We're skipping the turkey and traditional fixins this year and making a seafood stew and pappardelle w/braised short-rib ragu.

Re: The dark side of Dubai

This is really terrible. I had no idea about a lot of this stuff. My brother-in-law once worked on a design for some atrocious looking bridge being built there. I wonder now if the firm he worked for had known about the abuse of the workers that ultimately built it if they would've still worked on t...

I'm still listening to it though I generally turn it off after Splash. I cannot stand Broken People or Words..., those two tracks are so mediocre I can't stand it. I weas skipping Curiosity too but lately that one is actually growing on me. Underground, Splash, Twisted Tales and Hit You Back are all...

I've always thought the years between 86 and 91 would make a great movie too. Not sure who should be cast though. I probably go with a cast of unknowns and have the movie end with the opening night Lolla fist fight.

It's true. Him, not good. Fact. Nothing controversial about sucking at what you get praised for. Look at Kurt Cobain. He couldn't play guitar either. Listen to Machine Gun and tell me Dave wasn't influence by him. BTW Dave also played in a Hendrix tribute thing in San Diego a while back and couldn'...

I never said Frusciante is what Hendrix would sound like today.

You wouldn't make that connection? Really? If Hendrix was alive today he would sound EXACTLY like Morello. EXACTLY? Are you sure. How in the world do you what Hendrix would sound like today? If anyone said to you in '91 that TGEA is what Jane's was going to sound like in 20 years you'd probab...

Is this a serious question? What's your next poll, Plan 9 From Outer Space or Star Wars (A New Hope)? LOL! Page and Hendrix are the father of modern rock guitar. Those two have probably inspired more people to pick up a guitar than all other players combined. Dave is an amazing player and his playi...

Yes, but would you take The Riches over Maceo? :bored:
I would. Maceo should have been left in the litter box. :hehe:
Agreed. I never liked Maceo or So What. The Riches is one of the songs on Strays that I like.

Re: splash a little water on it

This is my favorite track on the record by far. The atmosphere and the vibe remind me of the old Jane's and I think the lyrics are some of the better on the album. Perry's story is cool and sounds personal.
