Re: “Whores” in 2023

I used to be a forum mod/admin back in the day for an indie rock band's popular fansite and it was fun checking IP address to see who the trolls were. One time a middle-aged forum regular guy opened a second account as a sensitive teenage girl and man was that awkward when he realized I knew (I dru...

I couldn’t get past the first 5 minutes. Just a guy rambling about Janes with a lot of weird visual effects happening.
You should watch the rest of it, the guy makes some good observations and comparisons that I hadn't heard before.

Re: “Whores” in 2023

I always felt Perry's use of the N-word alongside "freaks" was him deliberately using terms that those individuals identified with. They're society's outcasts and Perry's down there with them. For anyone who wondered whether Perry was being racist, the lyrics to No One's Leaving surely removed any d...

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

Echoing the thanks for this - the tone of conversation and body language is really interesting. Perry, particularly, I think - for the longest time, I have felt like he's always selling something in his interviews. Trying to push how great that latest whatever it. The way he's talking about the ban...

I don’t want chaos, but I want to feel that the music is on the brink of it, and the current combo does that.

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

It feels less polished and less routine, which is bringing out the best in all of them.

Best case scenario is Dave gets better and feels motivated to re-claim his position.

...and they're playing a lot of the songs they used to leave off like Trip Away thanks to Perry. More likely thanks to Eric seeing as he considers himself a champion of the 1.0 days. I agree Perkins has a lot to prove. Hopefully playing the old P4P songs has reminded him of how he used to play. The...

I think it’s innocent and honest. If it were on XXX, people would love it.

It probably sounds most like GGU-era P4P though.

Overall it’s much more encouraging than I expected.

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

That interview with Perk floored me when without any hesitation he ascribed long covid as the reason for DN's absence. :noclue: This was recorded during the SP tour and “long Covid” was what they were saying at the time. It wouldn’t surprise me if there were some contractual reason they have to mai...

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

My only criticism is Josh’s guitar parts add absolutely nothing to it. Just atmospheric fumbling.. kinda ‘poke and prey’ stuff. It’s sorely missing a top line… and Dave Navarros magic. I was expecting to agree with this when I read it before hearing the song. But I actually think the guitar works r...

5FSJSQdgp0g Wow, that was so much better and more interesting than I was expecting. It reminds me of 100 Ways, Kimberley Austin and Bali Eyes, both musically and in the sweetness/innocence of the lyrics and vocal melody. Obviously Perry's vocal is a bit weak but it's at the end of the gig and the r...

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

I'm very sceptical that they can produce new music that's in the same spirit (never mind quality) as the 1.0 material, given the wildly different circumstances that any new music is being created in. New songs could be respectable but could they be great ? I doubt it but would be delighted to be pro...

Re: Navarro: What makes him great?

I don't think Dave is getting the respect he deserves in this thread. Yes, he's made some bad artistic choices over the years but so have many of the greatest musicians/artists of the last 60 years. His playing in 1.0 was so good and doesn't sound like the hair metal groups that people like to sugge...

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread

Exciting to hear about new music and they definitely seem like genuine friends, which is great to see. That said, "Imminent Redemption" sounds more Kind Heaven than Jane's Addiction... We'll see! I also didn't take from this that Dave is definitely part of recording. I think Steve could have just na...

Didn't someone say Josh Klinghoffer was touring with Pearl Jam or somebody else?

Re: Navarro: What makes him great?

I've always liked how Dave can play a range of styles but still sound like himself. Classic Girl, Mountain Song, Stop, Ted, Summertime Rolls... the style of guitar playing is very different on all of them but they all have a psychedelic, arty quality that Dave brought to the table in that era. Perso...

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread

Dave and Chaney will both be back at some point, surely. In what context? If it’s in Jane’s, hopefully Dave is back soon. I’d be happy to never see plain yogurt Chaney again. I just don’t expect Eric to remain in Jane’s for the next 5-10 years and I also don’t expect Dave to have played his last gi...

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread

Regardless of whether you like how he ran Xiola, Sonny got those in-depth interviews with Eric and actually became part of Jane’s history in the process. I’d be very surprised if someone who was that dedicated to the band and the whole Perry/Eric dynamic wasn’t closely watching current events. Maybe...
