Dave and Chaney will both be back at some point, surely.
The bigger mystery to me is Sonny…
Has he ever resurfaced?

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Why would they want to draw attention to the two weakest albums and why would Eric play someone else’s basslines in a band he co-founded?
Surely it’s more likely they’d introduce new songs co-written by Eric.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
It could be that Dave’s absence is allowing Perry and Eric to experience Jane’s as their co-creation again. Dave’s prominence and profile was much bigger from Relapse onwards and Eric probably felt like he was returning to ‘their’ band rather than ‘his’. Nothing against Dave but it probably works be...

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I think the vast majority of RHCP fans (not the hardcore) want the Californication/By The Way sound/aesthetic and basically Josh is/was able to deliver on that satisfactorily.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
There’s something I don’t like about Josh Klinghoffer; I can’t quite put my finger in it. He’s kind of bland. Of course, not Chris Chaney bland, but still. He has a vibe that he lived in his bedroom for years and practiced around the clock, making him a great guitar player. But in front of an audie...

Re: Dave
When you have a guitar player like Pete, why would you want to see him replicate Dave’s playing anyway? I think it would be cool to hear some Jane’s get “Porno-fied”. Because those blast of notes and fretboard runs are as important as any part of those songs? They don’t need to be exact but they ar...

Re: Official Dallas/first night of Spirits On Fire tour thread
Perry and the dancers look and behave like they’re in a completely different group to the rest of the band.
You have to assume Eric is still getting the douche chills but isn’t fighting it anymore.

Re: Official Dallas/first night of Spirits On Fire tour thread
I like the unpredictable, slightly chaotic nature of these performances. It sounds less polished and routine than the last number of years, which is a good thing. It has the vibe of a 1.0-era bootleg in the sense that the guitar doesn't sound copied and pasted from the previous performance. Obviousl...

Re: ERIC IS BACK!
Eric and Perkins rehearsed on their own before NINJA, I remember Eric tweeting about it. They probably require more rehearsal than anyone else because Dave and Perry just do their thing over the top.

Re: In light of recent developments
For the life of me, I will NEVER understand how Chris Chaney wound up in Jane’s Addiction. He seems like the total antithesis of everything about the band. Totally boring and pedestrian. While the band would never be the same without Eric, I would’ve been fine with a new album featuring Flea or Mar...

Re: ERIC IS BACK!
I'm intrigued about what they might be able to produce, although I imagine some good live shows is probably the best we can expect. Hopefully they play in the original tuning, given how good Perry sounded with P4P at Lolla. In terms of new music, I don't think we can realistically expect any more th...

Re: ERIC IS BACK!
Hasn’t Dave said in the past that he’s not much of a jamming guy and also doesn’t like to hang around unnecessarily in the studio?
If so, he’ll likely come in and lay down his parts last.

Intriguing... Q. How will Eric avoid the douche chills this time? Q. What is Etty's on-stage involvement and how does Eric feel about that? Q. Why is Eric prepared to believe that Perry is capable of writing good new music? Q. Is this primarily about the money/memories? Q. Is this enough to bring So...

Really enjoyed reading this!
I was obsessed with Jane's bootlegs for a few years and the author really captures the exhilerating feeling of discovering and listening to them.
I owe alienonacid a beer.

Re: When did Perry's voice die?
Hi voice was good at the La Cita comeback show in 2008. Trip Away in particular: https://youtu.be/r69d9ZBJqn0?t=222
He went completely old-school with his delay/effects that night so I'd say my enjoyment of his performance is as much about his set-up as it is his voice.

Cool that this has been leaked but it doesn't sound very good tbh. Who's the guy talking about there being "a musician (Dave) that used to call into this show..."? Not Dan but the other guy. He says he can't enjoy Jane's music anymore because one of the other band members was too weird and ruined th...

The conditions haven't been right for them to create great music again since the mid-90s. They're all rich or at least comfortable financially. They're no longer driven by the desire to make it big (coz they already did). They're no longer surrounded by struggling artists and a DIY punk culture. The...

Re: Kind Heaven Orchestra's 12/2 show: Will it happen or not?
Perry has always been a complete odd-ball though, whereas the others are more 'traditional' frontmen of alternative rock bands. His strangeness is what makes him more compelling than his peers, but it's also what makes his creative choices much less predictable and consistent. So on the one hand, it...
