Don't get me wrong. I love his work with RHCP and for me that's the classic lineup and there's something special about those four guys playing together. that depends on what their objective is. If it's to win the ANR forum over they do need to take risks but if it's to appeal more to the masses they need to play it safe with catchy songs like Irresistable Force
