Re: The Cult

This is a great pairing. I'm kinda burnt on The Cult but I'll happily see Primal Scream again. Will definitely catch the Palladium show in Hollywood. These are *some* of the dates - there's some others not yet listed on TM/LN in places like Houston for late Oct: https://scontent-lga1-1.xx.fbcdn.net...

Re: True Detective

I was thinking of the Kubric references also last night. While I did really enjoy the episode I thought there were two things that seemed if not silly than a nod to network television police procedurals of the past: the way they conveyed Ani being under the influence of ecstasy seemed rather textboo...

Jane's Seattle July 22

I chose to sit this out despite it being very close to where I live. Last time I saw them was in Texas for their Solutionist(?) tour. While I had fun then it wasn't magic, and I was happy to pass on this N.S. show. A number of friends and Facebook friends went though, and by all accounts the casual,...

That's pretty cool, I'm excited to see this. I like a bunch of the bands in this doc. Excited to see 3 Mile Pilot, Heroin, Locust and I assume Swing Kids and Drive Like Jehu will be in this. My old band played Che Cafe a few times between 2002 and 2006. There was a band called Ioquire and the bass ...

It's Gonna Blow

a friend of mine, Bill Perrine, released a music documentary on the early 90s music scene in San Diego around the time record labels were looking for the next big thing. It's pretty cool if you lived there, or experienced it in some way. I knew Stimey from SubSociety and Inch really well. We worked ...

Re: Star Wars The Force Awakens

Not eagerly awaiting since it is in Disney's hands now. No great expectations. I probably won't go to the theatre for it, and I had for all of them since the first one when I was a little kid. It's not like George Lucas did a stellar job on the last three. Of course, I'm 45, and grew up on the firs...

Re: True Detective

I'm watching. And I'm enjoying it. Vince Vaughn is doing very well. He might be my favorite. I remember reading a long time ago-unless I'm just making this up--that he'd always envisioned being a serious actor rather than the comedic parts he seems to have been resigned to. I'd be disappointed if Fa...

Yeah. I enjoyed that. The fact that NS and Ritual were basically written during the same period suggests that whatever creative fervor Perry had was very short lived. Sure, there are hints of what he was on both Porno records, but truthfully, the first Porno didn't age well. It's raw, Pete's sound i...

Duran Duran is awesome.
For once I can agree with 67 about something. I couldn't have liked Duran Duran growing up. It wasn't cool, but I dig them, and like a lot of their new stuff.

yeah the guy is an idiot but he shouldn't have been fired. people shouldn't lose their jobs for saying stupid shit while not at work. :essence: Saying stupid things is one thing. Saying shitty things into a microphone is something else. Any employee who saw that, and would then have to work next to...

Ya know it's ok to say you "feel" a particular way...how you act on it is a whole different story. Without getting too deep and without judging anyone I don't know how a man can "feel" like a woman or vice versa...I think a lot of the misery resides in the brain. I don't know that getting hormones ...

Re: Where have you been?

One aspect about this list that didn't gel with me is that I've been to NY for work a number of times, but I have no desire whatsoever to go up the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty. For me, NY is about the streets and ordering a halal kebab at 2AM. Likewise, I went to China twice to vi...

Splitting hairs of course, but women are not a minority...nor are people of color... And my wedding was very similar to mockbee's...no fuss required and we've outlasted every couple we know that had the big weddings that year or around that time... Hence terminology such as "underrepresented...
