Hey I was wondering if there was anyone here who was the Santa Barbara show in 2001?

Damn it... I think that's the one I drove all the way down from SF Bay Area for, hit shitty traffic, and walked in for the last fucking song...

That's because he was so wasted he fell off the stool he was trying to sit on... wasn't a good show or look

really?! He was clean and healthy (or so I thought) at the time so that surprises me. 5 years prior it would have made a ton of sense

He was fucked up on Kava Kava. I would love an in depth description of what went down from someone who was there. He is a big Eric Avery fan, did he make any remarks about that?

Well I sorta gave one, he had to play from a stool, he appeared very drunk slurred words and was a mess..once he fell off his stool the set didn't go on much longer...hadn't head the kava kava story before...just assumed he was drunk or high again...the crowds reaction was "oh lookie John's too fucked up to be of use...sad....very sad" I don't recall anything he said...it was over 15 years ago

The end

Thanks, from what I've heard he stopped playing after a while and starting doing like a stand up a routine. And at one point there were people chasing him around the stage trying to get him off.

*WARNING! RAMBLING POST AHEAD!

Aye, it were a long time ago so details are fading but this was my first ever janes gig, which I'd flown out to see (by myself, aged 19, that was a big deal for me then) so it’s always going to be one of my favourite memories.

I'd seen froosh play at the borderline in London a few months before, fantastic show (but still kicking myself that I didn't get tickets for both nights).
I can't remember his set-list at all, I imagine he played Going Inside... I do remember him being quite obnoxious and not at all with it (in complete contrast to the London show where he was humble, sweet and friendly. Actually, at that London show, he spoke about Perry, describing him as someone he used to be friends with, then correcting himself to explain they were still friends but hadn't seen each other in a long time. I wonder if Perry reached out to give Froosh the support slot at the show, I don't think he would have pushed for it himself as he seemed but more comfortable in an intimate setting).

I do remember, Froosh drinking from about 3 bottles of weird brown liquid by his chair. I also remember someone behind be proclaiming that he wished he had his .45 (or possibly another number, I don’t know gun terminology) as he’d like to pick him off there and then.
Froosh must have been getting similar heckles from folk at the front as he said something like “Oh yeah? Well I play guitar in one of the biggest bands in the world so take that (and party).

Great days! I stayed in a youth hostel called Banana Bungalows with some interesting characters. The guy at reception told me that he was friends with Dave Gahan and that he was also a massive Jane’s fan.
Santa Barbara and Coachella, two epic settings for gigs. With the exception of Glastonbury, UK venues couldn’t come close in terms of scenery. The views at Reading Festival seemed a bit shit after that!

You are welcome, it was fun to try and remember!

I vaguely recall writing a review for a German frusciante (or possibly Navarro) fan site but I think the website is long gone.

KC, was it your site?
