I was just listening to this, this morning:

When you listen to the people who called in, it's really striking that they don't actually listen to what's being said, and that they don't seem to understand what makes something true. One lady *insists* that all Christians are Creationists, even after the previous caller has just finished saying he's a Christian but isn't a Creationist, and then she says there are FOUR scientists who think Creationism is true... as if that somehow has anything to do with the actual age of the Earth or what she can reasonably believe. Dawkins just patiently keeps insisting that she not take people's words for it, and just read a book for herself.
It's related to this because I think for most of us (liberal, educated, for the most part), it's hard to understand just how ignorant the average person can be... they will look at those Romney diagrams and not understand what's wrong with them at all, and nor will they be able to be persuaded... they just want to believe what they want to believe. Sadly, most of the time, they don't even know why they want to believe what they want to believe (that's how brainwashing/propaganda works). :cona:
Dawkins also points out that ignorance can be forgiven. But of course, once you've been shown why you're ignorant, continuing to insist that you're not ignorant isn't merely ignorant, but either crazy or stupid.
