Between Feb 19 and March 2, I’d have spent around 80 hours in airplanes, airports and/or crowded places in Europe and Asia. I’m like... 18% worried that my wife and/or I could get it, or that we could be suddenly quarantined.

Thats the shit I wouldn't want to be involved in. :balls:
Glad I have no international plans at the moment.
Less afraid of the virus itself.

That Princess cruise may as well be hell on earth. Gimme the virus before getting stuck on that ship, or any cruise for that matter....

I use public transit daily and have noticed an increase in people wearing surgical masks. I don't wear one but have been washing my hands more than usual. I try not to touch my face and I stay away from people coughing and sneezing. I think that's all I can really do right now. :noclue:

How far do coughs and sneezes travel?
Coughs and sneezes spread diseases, and you’ll definitely want to cover your mouth after reading this.
By Robert Matthews

Asked by: Charlie Mack, Uckfield

Given the number of infections that can travel through the air, it’s horrible when someone coughs over us.

But according to research by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it’s not just the person next to us we should worry about: coughing spreads droplets as far as six metres, and sneezing as much as eight metres. These droplets stay suspended in the air for up to 10 minutes.

Some University professor was on local radio the other day saying the only people who benefit from wearing the masks are the people who make the masks. They're pretty useless as they don't really filter much and are contaminated far too easily with people handling them all the time.

This is correct. Arguably, if you’re already sick, properly wearing a mask will protect others. But people don’t wear them properly. Think about what happens when you take off the mask: you touch the mask and your face, making it moot.

Best to just wash your hands frequently, avoid touching heavily used surfaces, avoid touching your face, and just... relax.

So media/stocks etc going bonkers....

I think there is going to be a period of time where everyone in the US is going to be asked to stay home. A 2 week viral holiday.... :noclue: :drink:

Anyways, I've not kept up on all the news, but can someone tell me how if between14-45 million people get the flu in the US and ~500,000 people hospitalized each year are they testing every one of those patients or is there specific symptoms known to look for?

All public schools have been cancelled for all of March in Japan. That will leave a lot of people unable to work. It will slow it down for sure. Kids are Petri dishes. The stores are already getting low on stock. I think this all might be a bit of an over reaction. Everyone is wearing a mask.

I remember thinking a while back, we need a disaster to bring people together again. Ironically, this could be the worst form. Nothing like an illness to keep people away and shun people. :drink:

If you’ve got any spare cash lying around at all, now’s a nice time to buy some index funds.

Not necessarily saying you’re wrong... but a highly infectious virus that kills 2-4% of all those infected seems like a reasonable cause for global concern. On March 4 I’ll return to being in contact with hundreds of kids, their parents and grandparents in the football school I work at. I wouldn’t want to infect them and be a bridge for the death of 2-4 of them.

I’ll get tested asap.

It's nowhere near 2 to 4%. There are so many unreported cases of people that are asymptomatic or had mild symptoms at worst that were never tested.
