Girl bands.
Girl bands.
Alright, gang... I'm lookin' for some recommendations.
I've always had a deep love and admiration for Fiona Apple, Portishead, and The Carpenters. I've always enjoyed the work of PJ Harvey, Veruca Salt, and even Poe. I love 8mm and most girl-fronted trip-hop kinda lounge stuff. Lately, I've found myself captivated by St. Vincent and Chelsea Wolfe and liking what I hear from Wild Flag and The Ettes... and it made me wonder... what else have I been missing out on whilst subjecting my eardrums to the persistent stoner rock penis party?
What other bands (groups, solo-acts, whatever) are fronted by a mournful female lead vocal over sort of sad and/or intense music?

Re: Girl bands.
i don't think the band has to be all girls. i do think he wants songs he can cry to so they are probably not the right band...L7 too.kv wrote:not a chick band...or was that your joke?blackcoffee wrote:Nico Vega.

The name of the band is inpspired by PJ but it's not the same sort of music.Turncoat wrote:isn't this a PJ Harvey album? Is it an actual band? Get your sex advice from the nastiest broad in rock n' roll:

1. I never cry.creep wrote:i don't think the band has to be all girls. i do think he wants songs he can cry to so they are probably not the right band...L7 too.
2. This is really just my recent realization that I seem to connect to the melodic structures of female writers. There's something in there that just hits right. Although almost every one of the bands/singers I like has a male backing band adding to the overall feel... BUT I tend to like the sonic quality and emotional overtones of female singers.
