New record comes out today no? I like they way they do this, potter away quietly and then BAM! out comes a new record. No hype, no months of BS talking, no "this is gonna be amazing, go viral"...

It's a masterpiece. It's quintessential Radiohead. I'm on my fourth listen through and still digesting it all.

I'd call it the "darkest/bleakest" Radiohead album. Thom's breakup with his girlfriend of 23 years is obviously a huge driver to the mood of the album. "True Love Waits" as the album closer brought tears to my eyes.

"Just don't leave"

"Don't leave"

"Don't leave"

The entire album and absurdly short supporting tour feels like Thom's "swan song" for Radiohead which I obviously hope isnt true.

rumor is they're going to be touring with a string section. I guess there are tweets from a violinist that collaborates with johnny for his film scores that show that he's rehearsing for a tour.

i'm excited.
I regret not getting a ticket now. Didn't they have a string section for KOL? I remember seeing a big band on stage.
They had the second drummer for King of Limbs. The guy from Portishead. He's confirmed that he's on this tour as well.

Some of the songs aren't new are they? Wasn't True Love Waits on that live thing they put out? and Identikit has been played live for a few years now too? Since 2012?

Why being such a sourpuss nausea? It's the first time they've recorded it. I'm not a hardcore fan, but I really liked it. I know Eric A did :noclue:
The Radiohead record created such a profound silence in my home just after it finished. It created a space and then left it empty. Great.
Colin Greenwoods work on this one, in addition to its creativity, is so economical and elegant - things I much appreciate in bass playing.

Heheheh...... I find it annoying when bands have songs that they play live for years and years but don't release studio versions of them (Whores, Trip Away......) or do years later on an album - kinda makes the album a group of unrelated songs rather than one coherent "album"- mind you that may not have been Radiohead's intention, and all they were doing was giving fans what they wanted, 20 years later.. .who knows.. Good on them, keen to get the new record, not so keen on the Special Edition so far being the only version with those two extra songs.. That shits me....

Yes that exactly.

And only three of the songs are "new" in that they haven't been played live.

I bought that. my "in rainbows" diskbox is one of my most prized possesions. I was really sold when I heard the set comes with a bit of the actual master tape from the actual recording session. Excited to hear what the two additional songs are. Doesn't ship until September...

So I've praised it enough- the one thing I hate is the title. "A Moon Shaped Pool???" Doesn't strike me.

In rainbows, a moon shaped pool...I like the moon :noclue:
I thought it was lame when I heard that was the new album's name. But at this time of the day, I just don't care about it. I care more about the music.

if it is i haven't caught it yet.

apparently it's the name of the stanley donwood piece that they used for the album cover. They just kept the same name.

i disagree. Jacuzzis are shaped like the moon. pools are shaped like those pressed pennies i use to get from knotts berry farm when i was a kid.

"pressed penny shaped pool" I like it.

I listened to it on the BBC6 site. I'm going to listen to it all this week before I decide to actually download it. I'm going to try to listen to it lying on my bed. Heard some people found it very soothing. Sonny was saying that if you buy the vinyl you get it until June. It comes with a digital download but you can't listen to it until you get the vinyl. What the fuck is that?
P.S. I liked it better than KOL. I find this one more cohesive.

This is their best offering since OK Computer. I love it......even if I was a bit dubious when I first heard Burn the Witch.

I thought that the video detracted from the song.
