TV shows - your ratings

Out of things that haven't been cancelled or otherwise ended. Rate 'em if you got 'em.

EXCELLENCE:

Game of Thrones
Mad Men
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire

ENTERTAINMENT:

The Borgias
Spartacus
The Walking Dead

JUNK FOOD:

True Blood

I've tried some others, but I've had no real luck. Justified was supposed to be good, but I couldn't get past the pilot. Sometimes pilots are really weak, but I can't be bothered. I watched one episode of Sons of Anarchy and it seemed pretty good, but didn't blow me away. I may return to it. Downton Abbey is supposed to be good, but it could also be incredibly boring. If there's something I'm missing, tell me.

Yeah, I should catch up on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I used to watch it with friends, but didn't keep up with it on my own. It's definitely funny.

I'll look into Californication. I see that it's been on since 2007. Holy crap.

A lot of people seem to love Arrested Development, but I never really checked it out, since so many TV comedies don't do it for me (Eastbound & Down being an exception).

Anybody ever watch Terriers? It's got a good rating in the imdb.

californication is worth checking out. it's a little over the top but it's still pretty funny with a bunch of drinking, drugs, sex and hollywood bullshit. last season was a let down. start from the beginning.

i enjoyed arrested development but didn't think it was the greatest.

have you watched veep at all? i enjoy it. it's fast paced but pretty funny.

I haven't seen that, but I know it's Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

I've never watched HBO's Rome. I don't know why. It has good ratings. Maybe it's because it was only on for two seasons, which virtually guarantees that HBO cancelled it and left all of the storylines dangling like they did with Deadwood, Carnivale, and so on. Luckily Game of Thrones is currently their third best-rated show ever (at least that's what I think I read).

By my calculations (going on number of books and book length), Game of Thrones, if they don't cancel it, will run for 8 seasons, at the bare minimum, and more likely between 9-11 seasons, 12 at the absolute max. That's fucking great, though on the other hand, what about older actors dying and younger actors (like Arya, Bran, Rickon) growing up too much? :hs:

For example, the woman who played Bran's nanny, "Old Nan," died before the second season. I don't know how much time the entire story is supposed to cover. It seems like seasons 1 and 2, combined, probably covered about a year or less. :noclue:

Trivia: Old Nan was Hodor's mother.

Out of shows that are still on air, I watch and enjoy the most

Breaking Bad (best by far for me)
Shameless
Dexter (last season sucked so much balls but hoping for redemption this year)
Nurse Jackie
Parks and Rec

Although Mad Men had its moments, I was disappointed with this season.

The only other shows that I have seen from those listed above are Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy. SOA can be intense but I catch it here and there; it is not something I go out of my way to watch and I would characterize it as a guilty pleasure/junk food.

Downton Abbey is an absorbing drama and well worth watching. The setting for the first season is 1912-14; the second season 1916-18; the upcoming season will take place during the '20's. Season 2 was not as good as Season 1 but I think that is because they tried to cram too much into it. The series has kind of has an Upstairs/Downstairs feel to it. It also reminded me a little of the Forsyte Saga.

EXCELLENCE:
Game of Thrones
Downton Abbey
The Killing (renewal still up in the air)

ENTERTAINMENT
American Horror Story
Once Upon a Time

JUNK FOOD:
Revenge

Archer
Shameless
Breaking Bad
Boardwalk Empire
Duck Dynasty - this show is redic its my junk food
Criminal Minds is good since A&E has it playing all day on Sundays
The Boondocks
Dexter
American Horror Story
Wilfred
Eastbound and Down

But I do not really watch a lot of shows, typically I do not catch up on something until its been out forever and Amazon has specials on getting the seasons.

So, I innocently started watching Downton Abbey as a remedy for Sons of Anarchy's gun-running, drug-dealing biker gangs.

Suddenly, a red-headed wildling appears. Strange, strange coincidences occur, and boundaries become weirdly blurred.

Exactly. Additionally we don't have so much quality tv shows here. I watch soccer and crime movies/series, that's it.

Same here... only football and now I'm watching Sherlock or Louie with my girlfriend. If I'm single I basically watch football and porn.

I never watched a whole porn movie in my entire life. Some porn clips yes but if i do not find the men attractive it does nothing for me. And most porn movies aren't made for women anyway imo. I once watched a gay porn clip and those guys were far more attractive than in the normal porn clips. :noclue:   Oh and i watched that Pam/Tommy Lee Clip ...

If only you had a book.........

I watch maybe a half hour of tv at night when eating dinner and maybe if there is a show on once a week or so, a little longer.

I watch Pawn Stars pretty religiously for some reason. I used to like mythbusters, the problem with that show is that there is really no scientific method involved and otherwise it is kind of stupid that they act like there is. I like watching giants baseball sometimes; that's good, unoffensive/mindless entertainment. I have no regular 'shows' otherwise.

Still TV-free after more than 10 years.

Usually around Boxing Day when all the sales are on I think about getting a TV, but I never do. :noclue:

I don't think I saw all the Arrested Development episodes, but the ones I saw, they were pretty funny. I'm looking forward to the movie (don't remember if it's out this year or the next one)
Right now the one I never miss is New Girl. And Two Broke Girls is pretty funny too. My guilty pleasure is NCIS. Other than that, I just watch HBO (Boardwalk, Mad Men, True Blood)
edit: Forgot about Community, I think this is the best show ever.

Talking about porn, I've been watching Katie Morgan's sex show on HBO for the past two nights...she's funny. I only get to watch the soft porn shit they show on Cinemax. But I'm like you Warped, I think it's only for the guys. Guys at least in the stuff I've seen look so nasty.

I thought it was a slow start but it is very, very good writing. Read like 20 minutes EACH day like it is medicine or something, then more if you feel like it. That's how I have got through many a book. I rarely 'feel' like reading....

The shows I watch on TV

Game of Thrones
Walking Dead
Boardwalk Empire
The Ricky Gervais Show
True Blood
The Universe
Life's Too Short
Mythbusters - although every episode these days seems to be about guns or explosives, which is getting a bit boring to watch.
Through the Wormhole
tosh.0

I enjoy watching various nature shows on Nat Geo Wild and Nature on PBS. I also like a lot of the shows on the Science Channel.

I fucking hate all reality shows and don't ever watch anything on NBC, CBS or ABC.
