Re: What was the first record you ever bought?
I've got an entire Disco Duck LP. It's got a picture of the disco duck in space on the cover, and inside it's got the disco duck song, and then the duck DJs the whole album, which is songs like "How Deep Is Your Love," "We Will Rock You," and "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water."kv wrote:holy shit forgot about this one you prob have disco duck as well...

My first 45 was Cliff Richard & The Young Ones - Living Doll (my parents bought it, does that count?)
I think the first cd I actually bought was Sid Vicious - Sid Sings. Or it might've been Use Your illusion 2.

Eh, I had older siblings so I didn't really need to buy albums when I was young.
Of course, that means I was subject to their tastes, and the albums I remember they had were: Def Leppard - Pyromania, Styx - Mr. Roboto, Rolling Stones - Tattoo You, Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind, KISS - Double Live, Ratt Out of the Cellar.
The first time I spent my own money on music I bought two cassettes, one I didn't care for very much and never really listened to after the initial interest:
and one that is still an all time favorite:

Re: What was the first record you ever bought?
I never really got into 45's until I got into LA punk at the beginning of the 80's. But I do know (and still have) my first single which was Quiet Riot's "Slick Black Cadillac" that was given out for free when I saw them at The Roxy around late '78 before they were signed and still had Randy Rhoads in the band. Through the 80's, the only reason I'd buy a single 45 was if it featured a non-album B-side or a new song from a soon-to-be released album (mostly U2 and Springsteen) or if it was being given away free at a show or record store which meant mostly local punk band stuff like from Black Flag, Fear, X, etc.
Re: What was the first record you ever bought?
I liked and still do a lot of punk and off shoots and my cousin actually bought this one for me when I was 9 or 10
Re: What was the first record you ever bought?
i still have this first album i bought in 1974. my parents were unto jazz and i had a neighbor (while teaching me drums) turned me onto this. this album was before the pop fool for the city and had a more blues boogie rock with the slide guitar sound going on. i still dig playing this from time to time

i got these two, around 91
that second one is a local band, it had a similar effect here than janes had abroad, paving the way for successful 90's bands, being themselves a blend of post punk, hard rock, psychedelia, funk (and reggae) with a deep love for velvet underground:
i fucking love 'em

I got that one as a present, I only remember one song (she drives me crazy). I always thought the singer had an interesting voice and look. But yeah, I can live without that albumMYXYLPLYX wrote:
