#1 Post by Artemis » Wed May 21, 2014 10:01 am

 I hope they tour in North America too!

I saw them back i nthe 80s...82/83 maybe?? :hs:
There is not a country in the world that doesn't know the names of Boy George and Culture Club.

Grammy Award winners Culture Club sold in excess of 100 million singles and over 50 million albums, and were one of the biggest pop bands of the 1980s. They achieved seven straight Top 10 hits in the UK, nine Top 10 singles in the USA and nine Top 20 singles in Australia.

And now the original line-up have confirmed they are to play live dates across the UK in 2014 for the first time in over 15 years. Prior to these live dates Culture Club will be going into the studio to record new material, with producer Youth (Paul McCartney, The Verve, Embrace) for an album to be released early in 2015.

Joining Culture Club on this tour will be very special guest Alison Moyet, well renowned musical icon, who has amassed sales of more than 20 million records both as a solo artist and half of influential duo Yazoo.

The dates (all U.K.):

•12/01 - Glasgow - The SSE Hydro
•12/02 - Newcastle - Metro Radio Arena
•12/04 - Leeds - First Direct Arena
•12/05 - Manchester - Phones 4U Arena
•12/06 - Nottingham - Capital FM Arena
•12/08 - Liverpool - Echo Arena
•12/09 - London - The O2
•12/11 - Brighton - Brighton Centre
•12/12 - Birmingham - National Indoor Arena
•12/14 - Cardiff - Motorpoint Arena
•12/15 - Bournemouth - Bournemouth International Centre

...at this point, everyone seems healthier than they were in the 80's-90's.... Alison Moyet lost all her weight, & supposedly George is finally clean.

My band used to do a punk style cover of Karma Chameleon back in the days... a lotta gay dudes used to get amped up...

This should actually be a pretty big deal...they might seem marginal now, but they were indeed a pretty big band 30 years ago...

If they come to Toronto, I will go for sure. I'm sure there won't be anybody under 40 in attendance...

A couple of recent pics..

I'm a big fan of Boy George. He posted a video recently of them singing Karma Chameleon. I teared up a bit. Would love to see them.

I grew up in the era of Culture Club and have a lot of respect for Boy George. He does look a lot healthier than he used to be, and I'm of the mind that there's nothing wrong with doing these tours--especially with them thinking about new music. It's just amazing how much time has passed.

Kinda funny story on CC, or at least on an acolyte of the CC church back in '83

The year in HS that culminated with my invitation to leave the school, I was dating a girl from another school. Missy, and her friend were huge CC fans .... large hats with lace accessories, tight ankle leather boots, torn blouses, and big hair. I became really good friends with Missy's friend and used that resource to be the self absorbed fuck that I was at 17, relentlessly poking for information and approval to bolster my youthful male ego. One day in complete disgust and frustration, she abruptly turned on me and unloaded the truth on Missy....she was fucking everything that moved. On the car radio was Karma Chameleon .... the hippy/karma/kumbaya song of the generation.

Missy ended up being the 80's porn superstar Christy Canyon, and she continued fuck everything that moved.

After my dismissal from ND, I went to another school where Missy was a senior. @ weeks into the year her parents drove up, dad got out of the car and opened Missy's car purged it of every last item and took the car. They had found out her career plans and disowned her on the spot.

That is a cool story, I didnt realise SR was such a stud. I dated the wife of the lead singer of a semi-famous band before they were married. I'm not gonna say the band, but if someone guessed who they are I would.

I can't recall the exact details, but wasn't there a story a while back where Perry was in Miami wearing one of his more flamboyant outfits and Perry flipped out because someone mistook him for Boy George? :hs:

Oh yeah, here it is. I found this passage from a book titled 'Rockstars do the dumbest things'..

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a Cuban gang member saw Farrell and shouted out, “Here’s Boy George.”  When Farrell return the compliment with a loud “Suck my dick,” the gang members were not pleased.  “The whole street opened up like a gangland-style war,” says Farrell, who seems to relish such altercations.  “People getting whaled left and right.  Cracked my friend’s fucking head on the sidewalk.  It’s almost like bulls – they go toward the color red.  Like I’m just ripe to look over at and go, ‘Hey, hey, hey.’  In a weird way, I’m happy when it happens.  I thrive on it.”

Fuck it, I was born in 75 and was a kid in the 80s. My heart broke a bit when I learned years later that the drummer was gay (had a huge crush on him). Karma Chameleon is not their best song imo. I love this one:

My guilty pleasure...

You are welcome creep :tiphat:

Allegedly, Boy George stole his look from his former classmate...

I find it hard to believe that look was anything anyone would "steal"... :scared:

Thrives on it, till someone punches him in the mouth, then he breaks up his band so they can't do it again.

She's a pretty big porn star apparently.

The music group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark mentions Canyon in the song "Heaven Is," from its 1993 album Liberator. [9]

But hey, cool! You actually dated a porn star!

I was an idiot. but her mom loved me....I was fairly wild (insanely wild (lucky to have lived )) in those days but I was always very respectful of parents. She wasn't used to that. :noclue:

Missy used to crank call my mom with discussion of my penis size. and she was overly flattering apparently. I a
