Agree with all of the above comments- shitty season!

The finale was lame. I thought it was strange that the writers would devote half an episode of the season finale to Juliette, a minor, undeveloped character. How ridiculous is it that Noah bumps into his daughter in Paris and rescues her from the awful,Furkat? Though I was happy that Noah and his daughter reconnected, I don't feel that this redeems Noah;he's still a selfish, terrible person.

Lol, he happened to stumble upon his daughter in that small town of Paris! Great point, my overall hatred of that episode had me overlook that stupidity.

I actually liked some of this season. I liked crazy Noah. He's such a dick that watching him go crazy was fun. I hate how the finale essentially swept it under the rug....he's normal now and saving his daughter and that stupid fucking eye contact with Helen from outside as she's at the Christmas tree in the window was super lame. I liked the Alison/Cole storyline but it was not showcased enough.

The Affair has been over. They're stretching out a story that's been told already. Some things worked this season, a lot didn't.

The most important thing that happened was Helen's confession and it wasn't even addressed in the finale. :banghead: It felt like we missed some episodes in between...how could Noah be on the floor in a mess after realizing he knifed himself and suddenly healthy and sane and in Paris? Not to mention Alison/cole and the fact that they slept together...too many loose ends this season, it was a disjointed mess. They just glossed over it all and showed Helen and Vic with the kids by the Christmas tree enjoying a cozy holiday like nothing ever happened. And are Helen's parents still locked in the panic room?

There's a new season? It's bad but I would watch it. It's another show I love to hate. I don't like any of the characters

I watched episode 2 last night. Part One was Cole's perspective and it was pretty good. The actress who plays Luisa, (Catalina Sandino Moreno) was phenomenal. Part Two was Alison's perspective and was a letdown.

i think the show is so much easier to watch when it's cole and alison-focused. i just find noah and helen SO irritating and impossible to sympathize with.

i thought ben/alison's new love interest was straight out of the too good to be true category. but he sure is cute

I agree ...well except for the guy being cute.

Watching the preview for next week was disappointing seeing that we are back to Helen.

Tonight's episode (8) was the best of the season; but seriously, wtf?!

I was very surprised too.

Yep, best ep of the season. I really liked the chemistry of Cole, Noah and Anton. Some funny parts that made me laugh, don't think this show has ever made me laugh before. Also, first time I've liked Noah, surprised by him as well.

There is going to be a 5th season! I wonder if Cole is fated to follow his father's footsteps.

With regard to episode 8 - there are already conspiracy theories on Twitter that Luisa is somehow responsible for the tragic turn of events.

If you have not seen episode 8 STOP READING.

SPOILER ALERT

Here is a Hollywood Reporter article that came out after the last episode:

for me, allison was the best part of the show (along with her relationship with cole). sad she's gone.

if the next/final season is only about cole proving ben is a murderer it'll get dumb, quick

Heavy season finale. There seems like a disconnect between episodes 1-7 and episodes 8-10 in that the last three episodes were worth watching. Seriously though, episodes 8-10 were great.

I'm still not clear on how accurate the details are with regard to Alison's demise. It just seems odd that Ben is such a monster. I guess it's plausible that he can become aggressive and violent when he drinks, but the whole 2nd part of episode 9 didn't fit AT ALL with the info about Ben the audience had been given in previous episodes. That info wasn't just through Alison's perspective, but also Cole's. Then out of nowhere - BAM! Ben is an off the charts asshole as he walks in to Alison's apartment. And that's BEFORE he starts drinking.

I agree. Maybe they will start the next season 5-10 years later and we will see how the characters progressed/regressed. I have a feeling Noah and Helen will get back together.

I didn't even realize that last week was the finale. I tried to watch it tonight. :conf:

I agree....I hope next season isn't just proving that it was a murder but it will be for sure.

Anna Paquin Joins ‘The Affair’ As Part Of Major Time Jump In Final Season 5

By Nellie Andreeva
November 9, 2018 9:03am

Oscar winner Anna Paquin has been tapped for a key series regular role in the fifth and final season of Showtime’s drama series The Affair, which will introduce a flash-forward storyline. It will center on Alison and Cole’s now-adult daughter Joanie Lockhart, played by Paquin, who returns some years in the future to a climate-change ravaged Montauk to piece together the truth about what happened to her mother and bringing the whole story full circle.

In addition to the setting decades into the future, Season 5 of The Affair also will follow the events in the months after Alison’s (Ruth Wilson) death at the hands of a violent boyfriend, with the two narratives running parallel to each other.

Returning as series regulars for the present-day Season 5 storyline are Dominic West as Noah, Maura Tierney as Helen, Julia Goldani Telles and Jadon Sand as Noah and Helen’s children, Whitney and Trevor Solloway, and Sanaa Lathan as Janelle, Noah’s love interest. It has been reported that original star Joshua Jackson, whose Cole was last seen grieving over Alison’s death, does not intend to return as a series regular though there is still a chance for him to appear as a guest star in 1-2 episodes.

The Affair‘s Season 5 guest star/recurring cast includes new addition Claes Bang, who will play a charismatic movie star and new love interest for Helen, as well as returning Emily Browning, Omar Metwally, Russell Hornsby, Abigail Dylan Harrison, Jake Siciliano, Kathleen Chalfant, Max Fowler and John Doman.

Season four found Noah (West), Helen (Maura Tierney), Alison (Wilson) and Cole (Jackson) in their own orbits, alienated from each other, spinning further and further away from where they all began. Season five, which has started production for a 2019 premiere, will chronicle the aftermath of the season finale’s horrific events and find the characters coming to terms with the consequences of their choices – as they make the realization that if they really want to change their futures, they must first, face the past. This final season is about how everything does really fall apart in the end, but somewhere in that wreckage, the seeds of change finally sprout.

I've been watching. It's not very good. There's a storyline that's in the future with Joannie as an adult. Noah is just as annoying as ever and now he realizes that he is truly in love with Helen and wants to get back with her. I guess I'll keep watching since it's the last season...why quit now?

Exactly. Too vested to quit (binging) at this point - I have three episodes left to watch.

The focus on peripheral characters just weakens what little plot line that's left, and the flashing forward is done so very poorly. Five season was too long.
