Re: Coachella 2015
I think I should be higher on the bill for Friday, but you all can say you knew me when....
Re: Coachella 2015
The news over here are Los Ángeles Azules. I've seen them twice and I do hope they play more songs than just 3 of their most famous ones. The band is huge and I had a lot of fun. Booze and having fun with friends helped.

I might go just specially FOR JamiroquaiMatz wrote:you know there's a problem when Jamiroquai is that high on the bill

I thought of you when I saw that! One of the standout acts no doubt!blackcoffee wrote:I think I should be higher on the bill for Friday, but you all can say you knew me when....

Re: Coachella 2019
I can safely say I don't own a single album from *any* of these acts. I don't know if I should feel out of touch and old or have decent musical taste and hip.
Re: Coachella 2015
I'm in to Chvrches and Blood Orange. Tame Impala have some good songs. That's about it.
Re: Coachella 2015
I guess I'm so old that I've never heard of one of the headliners before. Should I have heard of Tame Impala before? I know it's not cool but I like quite a few Weezer songs but other than that there is nothing that would make me go to this
Obviously I'm not their target audience though

Re: Coachella 2015
I heard there's gonna be some kind of Woodstock 50th anniversary festival this year.
Re: Coachella 2015
Tame Impala are reasonably popular. I don't think it's unreasonable for someone to have not heard of them though. I am a little surprised that they are a headliner.creep wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 2:03 pmI guess I'm so old that I've never heard of one of the headliners before. Re: Coachella 2015
I laughed when the email landed this morning. I used to eagerly wait for the lineup to drop in hope that the lineup would be wow enough to make the journey. It was for a few years, but the I got older and it got younger (it seems) and year after year the lineup became more and more like of meaningless names. This year's take the prize.
For several years, I think NorCal (and LV?) benefitted from bands touring up and down the coast between the festival's twin weekend, but now I can't say I even give a fuck about that...since I, too, and too old to know who most of the acts are.
Best I head back to my old man troll cave...

Hahahah old man.
Same.
Same.
Re: Coachella 2015
Childish Gambino is very good...multitalented guy. Will Smith's kiddo
Re: Coachella 2015
Rock is dead. Punk is dead. Indie has turned mostly into folk/pop, but even that has died (from banjo poisoning).
There's still excellent music out there, but it's not in the genres anyone older than 25 is used to. Plus it's always difficult to know what's pop-bullshit and what's the next big underground cool art thing. It's not like Jane's Addiction was ever really that popular to mainstream audiences, even at the heights of Lollapalooza '91. I mean relatively speaking... they need Pearl Jam numbers, and aren't going to get that with Pearl Jam.

I love this thread every year..."where old, out of touch people are confused about what kids like"
Who cares?
Surprised tame is headlining....I see about the average number of "now" bands scatterted through out the line up as always....haven't been to a music venue with more then a few thousand capacity in at least 20 years...coachella is as relevant as an article about teen fashion to me

Re: Coachella 2015
Hypes post is dead on....when the old heads here think of the 80's and 90's it's obscure punk bands, janes, ministry, x, Lord's of the new church, Smith's...in reality it was Micheal Jackson, Prince, Madonna, guns and roses, bon Jovi and metallica that would have been our Coachellas because it's the mass appeal...would I have gone to that? Fuck no lol
Re: Coachella 2015
I'm suprised by Tame Impala as a headliner too. I thought their peak was a few years ago. I saw them at the Bestival Festival in Toronto a couple of years ago...they were good. As for the rest of the lineup, there a few that interest me like US. Girls, Janelle Monae, Childish Gambino,CHVRCHES, and a couple of others, but that's about it.
Re: Coachella 2015
Tame Impala are ridiculously good.
Aside from that, I can tell you what you all wanted to know: the number of Chilean artists on that bill. The answer is two: Mon Laferte and Javiera Mena. Both quite unremarkable in their own way, but Mon Laferte is better.

Re: Coachella 2015
The line up is a compromise. Though the kids may be listening to these peeps, they're also listening to Kendrick Lamar, Aanderson Paak, and Chance who are light years ahead of these guys (with the exception of CG)...and are all conspicuously absent
Re: Coachella 2015
This year is particularly polarizing.
It used to be a lot more like early Lollapalooza, with many genres.
But this year, it's just straight urban pop and EDM.
Also, what the fuck happened to the whole "Offer a suitcase full of money to get a band to get back together" thing?

Re: Coachella 2015
The suitcase went to beyonce and miss grande
Re: Coachella 2015
Are they back together?
