Tame Impala are ridiculously good.

Aside from that, I can tell you what you all wanted to know: the number of Chilean artists on that bill. The answer is two: Mon Laferte and Javiera Mena. Both quite unremarkable in their own way, but Mon Laferte is better.

The line up is a compromise. Though the kids may be listening to these peeps, they're also listening to Kendrick Lamar, Aanderson Paak, and Chance who are light years ahead of these guys (with the exception of CG)...and are all conspicuously absent

This year is particularly polarizing.

It used to be a lot more like early Lollapalooza, with many genres.

But this year, it's just straight urban pop and EDM.

Also, what the fuck happened to the whole "Offer a suitcase full of money to get a band to get back together" thing?

The suitcase went to beyonce and miss grande

I think that's an incredible lineup. And I'd kill to see Rage and Run the Jewels in one night.

you're much more hip and cool than me. I have heard of only nine of the bands playing. :dunce: :noclue:

i will continue to live in the 90's.

I'm not at all. I just love the headliners. There's a handful of other bands there that I like but that's all I know.

Pretty sure 90% of this lineup is EDM.

Kids today don't really like musical instruments.

Me too, when the fuck is all that hip hop gonna go away? Can't believe kids today don't want more than that. It's so tame musically, much of it, and so similar

And wtf is Danny Elfman doing there?

sometimes I'll come across a track or two, like XXX's stuff, that I think is cool, but as a whole I'm bored to death. But, I haven't exactly dived deep and maybe if I did I'd be more of a fan, but I doubt it. Am I really the only one here thinking this around here?

Maybe a cultural thing..... ?
:noclue:

As in, the black experience is pretty baked in to our (US) cultural DNA and touches about everything arts related,
:tiphat:

Maybe not so much where you are from?

Seems on the Europe side France/UK has some strong roots as well, with Italy/Netherlands/Belgium making a showing.

Not saying you can't appreciate it, just the visceral connection maybe lacking....

Same here, exact trajectory.
I would HIGHLY recommend checking out juice, peep, XXX if you havent done so already.

But there is a lot of crossover that I know you like. There is no FNM without hip-hop/rap...
I remember Matz I think in years past saying he doesnt get anything from FNM...

It is just a cultural observation for discussion.

Hip hop has its place, not saying it doesn't, I just think its a problem its become this massive thing, so a lot of kids today will think that a song is this four chord loop thing or just a riff that's repeated or something that's been sampled and then sung over. The complete opposite of what kids in say the 70's grew up with. Music back then was much more challenging to the ear and songs weren't written in a day as many songs are now and people were exposed to much richer harmony and rhythms and complex songs. Keith Richards probably spent weeks writing and perfecting the intro to Angie e.g. This dumbing down of music saddens and worries me
