Rockstar Weiland Died From 'Toxic Mix' Of Drugs

Scott Weiland, the former frontman of Stone Temple Pilots, died from a toxic mixture of drugs including ecstasy, cocaine and alcohol, medical examiners have confirmed.
The 48-year-old, who was found dead on a tour bus on 3 December, also had a history of cardiovascular disease and asthma.

A rock singer who most recently was touring with his new band, the Wildabouts, Weiland passed away in his sleep at approximately 8.27pm.

Hennepin County's medical examiner determined that his death in Bloomington, Minnesota, was accidental.

On the night he was discovered, Weiland's band had been scheduled to play a gig in the nearby town of Medina - but the show had been cancelled a week earlier because of poor ticket sales.

The musician's career, which spanned three decades, was dogged by substance abuse problems.

It is believed the 2003 break-up of Stone Temple Pilots was in part because of his stints in rehab and drug-related arrests.

After the Grammy Award-winning group disbanded, following hits including Interstate Love Song, Plush and Vasoline, Weiland went on to front Velvet Revolver.

He was joined by other rock legends including Slash, Dave Kushner of Wasted Youth, as well as Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses.

Stone Temple Pilots also reunited for a short time between 2008 and 2013.

A fundraising page has been set up which invites fans of Weiland to donate to MusiCare, a charity which helps musicians in times of hardship.
