We recorded a demo
We recorded a demo
I'm in a new band, well new, we've been with 3 for 3 years but finding a singer proved to be difficult. So full band for a year or so.
We just recorded our first 3 song demo, nothing fancy, just to get some gigs in the neighbourhood.
Result can be heard here:

Any thoughts obviously welcome

that's fucking good music. great work.
Re: We recorded a demo
Great stuff Mescal, love the music. Kind of reminded me a bit of Screaming Trees, which is a good thing.
Re: We recorded a demo
Good job dude. Sounds good. I'm way into sludgy sounding stoner rock.

I'm def hearing TOOL in there.
Re: We recorded a demo
Yeah, I'd imagine :) most notably on Dust?
The working title for that song was 46&2 :)
Thanks for the nice comments!

Your band sounds really good!
Last night when I listened to the songs, I liked 'Easily" the most. Today, I like 'Rock & Roll' the best. I think it probably plays really well live.
Dust is really good too.

Easily sounded really good. Fantastic rock sound, and you sound particularly good. Even if it hadn't been you, I'd have mentioned that I liked the work on the guitar, with subtelties when needed and with a more straight-forward stoner sound when needed as well. The singer sounds like he knows what he's doing as well. The drums were solid; there were a couple of fills that felt uncomfortable for me, but that's probably because I would've done something slightly different.
Rock & Roll I didn't really like, but your solo was fucking sexy. The song felt too "motorcycle rock" for my taste, that's all. And since there were a lot of breaks, on a first listen it felt a bit disogranised.
In the first verse of Dust, I felt like the drummer could do a bit less. Those cymbals felt a bit forced for my taste, especially in such a soft context. The song was good, everything I could hope for.
You guys sound like a good band, mate. Congratulations, seriously. Really good stuff, are you having any luck getting gigs?

I hate to dissapoint you ....
But I’m the bass player in the band
But I’ll forward the kind words to our guitar player

Shit, then I extend my compliments to you. I didn't mention the bass because I thought I'd focus my comments on what I thought you were playing, but I thought the bass was everything I'd expect in a bass player for my band. There was a nice amounth of depth in it. Loved it. How long've you been playing with the guitarist? More than with the drummer?

Maybe you should just shut it ...
Re: We recorded a demo
I will.
I do know your songs make your band deserve a better name, though. Come on.

That's better
You see, insulting is much easier than giving compliments. The bass giving depth ? Come on? That's not a compliment, that's stating the obvious.
And we tried, but we really couldn't come up with a better name.
And there's a story to the name. So if ever we get famous, and they ask us where the band name comes from, we have a story
Re: We recorded a demo
And I asked for a band name on this site.
But you lot didn't come up with anything worth mentioning either

What, "Inflamed Sphincter" not good enough for ya?!?Mescal wrote:And I asked for a band name on this site.

Seriously, all three songs sound really good and well-fleshed out. It's a big plus they are well-recorded and produced. There's no weak links in your band, everything and everyone fits within the confines of the songs. Probably my only suggestions would be to get some more bottom end on the drums and go a little more out there towards weird psychedelica w/the guitar when possible.
Re: We recorded a demo
Wow, thanks for the nice comments Panda (and everyone for that matter).
But I see you as pretty critical with a good taste in music, so thanks.
We've had two gigs so far. We got a lot of good reactions on our first gig, on the second a bit more meh.
We were the opening band on both occasions, and the second gig was opening for a really doom/sludge band, so maybe less our crowd.
We entered a competion for a local festival, so we'll see how that works out.
We're not out for world domination, but getting a few cool local gigs would be nice

Change the band's name, even if you don't want to take over the world. It's one of those novelty-sounding names that's embarrassing to say. I was in a band with a particularly poor-chosen name and even when we were on the radio either the presenter would get the name wrong or you could feel their embarrassment when saying our name.
But since my criticisms are constructive, here are some ideas:
The Sun
Mein
Main Mine
Baby Gorilla Loves His Momma
The March
I bet you loved Baby Gorilla Loves His Momma. No wonder you like fucking Beaten By Hippies...

Beaten By Baby Gorillas
Hippy Gorilla
Hippy Momma Gorilla March (maybe save that one for a instrumental song title)
