Most of Metallica's earliest stuff (their best) is Mustaine's work. And I would argue Rust in Peace beats any Metallica album hands down. They were just such better musicians.

Not a Metallica fan…but Megadeth makes me cringe.

I LOVE Rust in Peace... Megadeth are great and Mustaine is a MONSTER...but aside from Rust in Peace nothing Megadeth has done comes even close to Ride the Lighting, Master of Puppets or And Justice for All & I'm including Peace Sells ...I've never heard anyone try to say Megadeth is a better band, or that any one album of theirs is better than the whole Metallica catalog, that is nonsense and it sounds like you just aren't a Metallica fan which is fine, but yeah ONE of Megadeth's albums is not equal to or better than in this equation...sorry man :noclue:

my favs are kill em all .. half of ride .. garage re visit .. and justice .. megadeth has a greatest hits album worth of classics that beat the metallica classics .. and if you give mustaine the first two metallica records that only leaves justice .. and it could be said metallica had some great help with mustaine cliff and newstead .. and maybe metallica wasn't so good without those cats .. and maybe that tips the scales in favor of mustaine .. aw yea eah!

It's not an anti-Metallica rant, I am a Metallica fan! But moreso the early stuff. Although And Justice is my favourite album. First three albums are amazing too. Always thought the Black Album was way overrated and Load and Reload etc..well some nice melodies, but that's just not really Metallica. I just think Megadeth are just technically better musicians and RIP is the pinnacle of excellence in that genre.

I mean, Friedman is way better than Hammett and Menza (RIP) is/was way better than Ulrich (although most drummers are  )

Metallica's worst years were the Newsted years...After Justice, their output was purposefully more straightforward and commercial. They made a return to form with Death Magnetic 2009, which is a very good album. Hardwired is fairly solid and the two new singles are promising. Megadeth have some great material, but fall into a bland category...Mustaine has tried to write his 'enter sandman' for decades now and always comes up short. Megadeth would've been better off staying the course like Slayer did. :tiphat:

It's amazing though that Dave Mustaine got kicked out of Metallica then comes back and starts his own band that's compared on that level.

Oh absolutely...and maybe in part because he used to be in Metallica. In reality, I think the only other metal band that could've taken the crown from Metallica would've been Pantera.
if they held their act together, that is...great band and vocalist that could sing...they could've had a couple more "Walk" s in them and broke into mainstream radio the way Metallica did.
That said, Great Southern Trend Kill and Reinventing the Steel are two solid thrash metal albums. :tiphat:

Do you think he feels that way?

He's incredibly frustrated that Megadeth ain't as big as Metallica.

Metallica is the better band imo, but to each his own.

It's safe to say that the Cliff era is the only good Metallica era.

And Pantera is too trash/heavy too reach the amount of success as Metallica. Never been into them that much.

Metallica's first 10 years and first 5 or 6 albums leading to and including the Black album are so good I forgive them for anything else they've done since... lol

And yes, Menza & Friedman are better BUT the ability of them as players doesn't always make great songs...Rust in Peace is the best album with those two Extinction was cool but felt like they followed Metallica trying to make the songs less complicated etc...both great bands and I love em enough NOT to compare them lol

I thought we'd get an opinion on the latest Metallica album from Panda. I guess his headbanging days are in the past.
