I hope this tour comes my way...

Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins have confirmed the first tour dates for their highly anticipated new project Poptone, which will perform the music of the bandmates’ prior acts Bauhaus, Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets at nine concerts in five states in the western U.S.

The shows are slated for venues in California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Nevada during the months of May and June, and they follow the new group’s previously announced live debut at a Los Angeles recording studio next month. Tickets for all of the just-announced concerts go on sale Friday.

See the confirmed dates below.

A representative of the band tells Slicing Up Eyeballs that additional U.S. dates will be announced.

Ash and Haskins will be joined in Poptone by Haskins’ daughter Diva Dompe, formerly of Blackblack, who plays bass and sings. According to a posting on Poptone’s Facebook page, the group has been working up material for the shows, including Tones on Tail songs “Go!,” “Happiness” and “Movement of Fear,” Bauhaus track “Slice of Life,” and an Ash solo cut called “Flame On.”

Haskins and Ash, who have been DJing together of late, last played together in Bauhaus, with Haskins’ brother David J and frontman Peter Murphy, during a 2006 reunion, and in Love and Rockets, again with David J, in a 2008 reunion. The comparatively short-lived Tones on Tail, which featured Ash, Haskins and bassist Glenn Campling, only ever performed live in 1984.

Below, check out the current Poptone live dates.

I'm in for either one of the April LA dates if I can get in or the San Diego show. Been waiting nearly a decade to see Danny Ash live again. Last time I saw him was the Love and Rockets pre-Coachella small club show in San Diego and it was excellent.

The LA dates sold out immediately about 2 weeks ago through Ash's website. Those two shows are 250 people each. San Diego or Vegas, baby!

I'm in for the Anahiem HOB show in mid-May and after seeing the setlist and a few Youtube clips from the shows last weekend, I'm faily excited to see this show.

Ditto!

Enjoy Panda! You know we will be expecting one of your excellent show reviews with all the details. If possible, a photo or two to accompany your review would be awesome too.

I have some hope that I'll get to see them. Looks like maybe it'll be in July or August. After Chicago, they'll likely do the typical east coast concert cities including Toronto and Montreal.

Got to see the second show at Swing House last week. It's pretty solid and will only get better.

Saw them last night at the (new) Anaheim House Of Blues.

First off, Daniel Ash still has it. So does Haskins. Haskin's daughter is on bass and while she's no David J, she's at least pretty good support although she's barely above Chris Chaney in the on stage charisma dept. The set was mostly Tones on Tail, a few Love and Rockets, a couple Ash solo tunes, a couple covers and the inevitable "Slice Of Life" as the only Bauhaus tune played in the encore. I'm not a huge Tones fan, but I love Love and Rockets and Bauhaus and Ash is one of my favorite guitarists so I kind of knew going in that this may be a mixed bag as far as what gets played. Unfortunately, the two Tones songs I like, "Burning Skies" and "War" did not get played so a big chunk of the set was tunes I wasn't really in to. Of the few Love and Rocket songs played, "Love Me" was by far the best. They opened with a trippy, fuzzed out version of "Heartbreak Hotel" that sounded like something from early Jesus And The Mary Chain and closed with a nice version of LaR' Sweet F.A.A..

The show was probably only about 50% sold, the HoB had the entire upstairs balcony section closed off so it was people just on the floor and it was pretty easy to move around. The crowd was pretty sedate but at least respectful. Kind of surprised at the lack of goth-heads in the crowd. This new House Of Blues which is in a near-empty new strip mall now across the street from Disneyland is a improvement over the old HoB which was in crowded Downtown Disney. They have a much better (and louder) house sound rig although Haskins sampled trashcan style drumming gave me a pounding headache (No Big Deal was brutal) by the last 3rd of the show.

Over all, a decent show but a far cry from a LaR or Bauhaus gig.

Just saw that Poptone will be playing in Toronto on September 29th. Unfortunately, I am going to the Pixies that night.

I might still buy Poptone tickets, just in case I decide to sell the Pixies. What would Jesus do?!? :hs:

Got tickets for Poptone this morning. I guess I will be selling my Pixies tix. There's a second show on the 30th, maybe someone will trade nights with me?

I'm going to that show! Got surprised with tix that are in the upper balcony (one obstructed view). But honestly, Frank's not much to look at anyway.

I think the show I saw at the Orpheum in Madison, WI was one of the best shows I've ever seen (though I was very drunk)... but it should be fun to see them at Massey.

I'm sure it'll be an excellent show. Make sure you see the opening band, Sunflower Bean. I saw them last year at The Garrison(small club) and was really impressed. I really like them and am kind of bummed that I'll be missing them.
