Digging Starcrawler. A young band from LA with a glam 70s sound....love it!

The War on Drugs are now my favorite band. And their most recent two albums are becoming almost as important to my adult life as NS/Ritual were to me as a kid. I've listened to both front to back at least 30-40 times in the past year and a half.

It's like Bruce Springsteen crossed with everything bad about the 80's

I say it's Bob Dylan, fronting the Dead, covering 80s era Tom Petty and Springsteen.

As with most great bands and records, you really need a joint, some headphones, and to listen to their records as a whole. It's not "hear a song and decide" kind of music.

They're phenomenal musicians and songwriters. But definitely not for everyone. Again, like most great bands.

Carl Stephenson who co-wrote a few hits that Beck put out had some good songs

Just heard Amor for the first time... like 20 minutes ago.
I don't know if it's because of the hoolie I just smocked, but I think this is great! Has a Talking Heads feel. :thumb:

I’ve been discovering Pink Floyd as of late. Before this, I pretty much only knew and loved The Wall.

I’ve been blown away.

surprising (not that you're blown away, but that you're only discovering it now). Monster band, love almost everything they've done. Even Divison Bell which a lot of die hard fans seem to not get along with I think is great. Final Cut is the only one I don't like, I agree with Gilmour in that it's "too wordy".

Oddly enough, today I told someone about Dave's Pink floyd amp story, funny one

Pink Floyd are great. Back in 2002 we even tried the whole mushrooms/Wizard of Oz/dark side of the moon thing. Which does work by the way, well at least for the first hour anyway. To digress slightly that's when we had some really bizarre loophole in the law here in the UK where you could buy shrooms but not cook/boil to consume. I think this went on for about 6 months and all these shops sprung out of nowhere selling mushrooms. Needless to say myself and some friends partook, something which I had not done since the very early 1990's. We did the Pink Floyd thing in my mates living room and then after we all lay down on the floor and built these huge Aztec temples in luscious green vegetation in South America (you had to be there). Anyway, the law was changed very quickly....even though people were staying in, hallucinating and having a fucking good time.

Yeah, been a Pink floyd fan since I've seen the Live At Pompeii movie.

I like everything up until the Wall. Don't really feel for the final cut and Division Bell.

Saw em live on the Division Bell tour and had an incredible acid experience on Comfortably Numb.

Wasn't much of a fan outside The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Dark Side Of The Moon until about 5 years ago when they did the massive box sets for those 3 albums and the rest of the catalog reissue campaign. I kind of rediscovered Animals, Meddle, Obscured By Clouds and Atom Heart Mother during this period and have really re-evaluated and grown to love especially Animals and Meddle. I still can't get into any of their Syd Barrett albums or anything post-The Wall. Never saw them live although I tried for the mail order ticket lottery for The Wall tour way back in '79 and did see Gilmore's first (boring) solo tour in the mid 80's. I guess sometime this year they are putting out a 5.1 Blu-ray surround sound remix of Animals.

Yeah, Piper is a stroke of genius.

Piper might be a bit harder to get into, but I think it's unbelievable that the album still sounds so strange, even 50 years later. It hasn't aged a bit. Not a bad track on it imo. It's a bit childlike, dreamlike; but then it's not ...

Saucerful is great as well: Let there be more light with the doped out solo in the end, Set the controls, Remember a day, Jugband blues ... The title track might be a bit noisy, but check out the Live at Pompeii version, it might give you a different perspective. Again, I can't stress this enough: Listen to Live at Pompeii, it has the definitive version of the tracks: Echoes, Eugene, Controls, Saucerful, Pieces etc .... All great

Meddle is great, cause it has Echoes on it!

Haven't really gotten into Obscured, Ummagumma, More etc ... But will give obscured another spin.

Idles. Might be my favorite band of the moment. Touring the US in a couple months, looks like the Fonda Theater show on 5/22 in LA may be my first show of 2019.

Yes mate, bloody brilliant band - absolutely thunderous live. Seeing them again a couple of times later this month.
