Apparently, they played 30 songs last night. That's a long fucking show!

That's pretty standard for them.

At minimum their shows are 2:45

Their long ones go around 3:15

I was a massive, massive Pearl Jam fan up until Yield. I dug a few tracks on that album, and nothing since.

The Davids (bowie/byrne) discover pro-tools in 1982.... :noclue:

And in a kind of washed up/what do we do now way, not groundbreaking way...?

I'll hand it to Eddie for taking a leap though.

When I first heard the synths, I thought, "oh no, they're trying to do that hipster bullshit". But there is a balance of different instruments and sounds. They were kind of doing things like this back with, You Are back in 2002.

The music is fine. But it doesn't work for Pearl Jam. Not with Eddie's vocal style.

I know Mike McCready is really in to Grizzly Bear. I wonder if this is his doing.

Everywhere I have read comments on this tune, I see comparisons to The Talking Heads....I hear an anthemic Springsteen tune. :noclue:

Yeah, on second listen, I agree with this.

It is a major David Byrne retread though, but I suppose there has been all that Springsteen retread already with Arcade Fire/War on Drugs/etc that I could see it working out for them.

War on Drugs are far beyond a Springsteen retread.

Don't get me wrong, I love War on Drugs, just finished listening to Deeper Understanding album doing my workout. But Springsteen is all over it, in a good way....

Springsteen really made a unique/original sound though, like Talking Heads, and early PJ.....

Really??? To my ears there is nothing Springsteenish about this song. Perhaps some vocal similarities to Bruce in parts of the song but otherwise, I don't hear it.

I like the new song. There is definitely an 80s sound with strong Talking Heads, especially the guitar and singing in the beginning. As the song goes on, Eddie Vedder's singing is a mélange of David Byrne, Brian Ferry, David Bowie, and even Peter Murphy!

Less so on second listen, but I definitely get the Boss vibe on Vedder's vocals in the chorus.

I like the new tune, probably because it's just different from the usual Pearl Jam meant n' potatoes rawk or acoustic stuff. I believe the band has already stated this song is kind of an outlier compared to the rest of the album. Aside form the already mentioned throwback references, it reminds me of what Arcade Fire did to shake up their sound over the last two albums which didn't end ....well.

BTW, I tried for a single ticket to one of the LA Forum shows yesterday - TM was absolutely slammed, both shows sold out in minutes.

After 4-5 listens I am really liking this tune.....
It's way more complex than I initially perceived.
I like the familiarity of the 80s pop sound and the lyrics I catch are intriguing.

I dont know if it would rank high enough for listens beyond a month or two, but I will definetly be checking out the whole album.... That is saying something as well. I havent done that since No Code...
:bored:

Hope the fact that this tune may be an outlier is a good thing, not that I would want 8 of these tracks, but hope they maintain the quality.
