Why would they never play that live before? Sounded pretty good. Maybe because it's a tough song for the drummer?

Probably because Trent had to become an old man before he thought it was ok for Nine Inch Nails to play a mandolin on stage.

For someone whose music was so aggressive and angry for so long, he had to get married and sober and become a father before he softened up his stance on what his music could be.

Now there are mandolins and xylophones onstage when it used to be guitars, more guitars, and even more guitars.

I heard that Trent hates the song so I was surprised to see em play it. It's a good song

Amazing show on Saturday. Perhaps best I’ve seen him. Crowd was super into it, setlist was so tight.

Got to see A Perfect Drug and Mr. Self Destruct. Looked at tonight’s setlist and I’m really glad I got lucky last. Ivhf. Although tonight he did happiness is slavery.

Going again on Wednesday for his last show in NYC so hoping I can get that first show/last show magic. The band really was just flying on all cylinders yesterday.

NIN's played something like 50+ different songs so far on this tour. They've even played Came Back Haunted at least once this tour. Glad to hear you got Perfect Drug - I'm really hoping for that one along with Last and Heresy at my show which will be the final Hollywood Palladium show in mid December.

Hopefully since you're the last show for LA he will go all out. A friend of mine who just started to get into NIN went to his first show Sunday and he was like 'i thought i covered the catalogue well but there was a lot I didn't know' bc Trent was playing a lot of deeper cuts for the casual fan. At that show he didn't play Wish or Gave Up which I always find to be some of the best live for crowd energy (esp Wish).

I was just super happy I got the 'harder' rock show with songs from Bad Witch (trent played a good sax lol) - the band was just annihilating the songs. I will report back if I get anything on Wednesday - I am crossing my fingers for Happiness is Slavery - or maybe the Fragile in full  :hehe:

Another really good setlist tonight - now I’m nothing, something I can never have, sanctified, home, and perfect drug tonight. Guess I won’t be getting those tomorrow, sigh.

Hope he brings out some good shit tomorrow I’m excited

He played the broken ep!!!

I can die happy. He also covered...how to destroy angels? Who woulda guessed?? He also played the background world!

Amazing show. Between this and Saturday I’m just riding high. Such great energy. I literally almost cried when he played the third song from broken and I knew it was happening.

Okay I’ll stop fan girling. This tour kicks ass. Panda you’re in for a treat

I just looked at SetlistFM and saw that. Not only did they play Broken but the 2 "bonus" cover songs as well. I would have died a happy camper if I got (or get) that set you got. Super stoked for Palladium in 2 months.

They've now played 62 songs so far across 15 shows, apparently - quite the haul.

Sadly, most of them have been unremarkable set lists, with the exception of the two nights 'Broken' has been trotted out.

I've seen a couple of shows so far on the tour and have four more, but I really think this is the last tour where I pay attention - it's all become too predictable. I suspect I am in a minority though as people at the shows seem as rapid as ever.

Yes, it's nice that things like 'The Perfect Drug' can happen, but it's still the same formula as every tour since 2013 - half of TDS, half a dozen standards that are always played, a bunch of new shit (emphasis on shit, because the new material essentially is) and then a random bone here and there.

Those bones would probably be enough for most bands, but he's kind of failing my the same standard he set himself pre-hiatus.

(At least 'March of the Pigs' has finally been dropped from the set for the tour, and 'Closer' is not longer a staple.)

Panda - which night will you be going to Palladium?

I'm going to the next two shows in Boston, pretty psyched. I really like the last 3 releases. Didn't like Hesitation Marks, but he doesn't seem to be playing much off that.

I think Year Zero was when I gave up. I had hoped that With Teeth was an anomaly and not a new direction, but Trent's new singing style and less abrasive sound were clearly in place permanently.

I remember traveling to Kansas City to see them on what I believe was the with teeth tour and realizing that they were playing a static set list. I was bored to tears. I did not see them again until the ninja tour and while I enjoyed some of the deep cuts it still didn't quite feel like Nine Inch Nails.

In the 90s did he often play a variety of setlists with a lot of deep cuts? I know he had a smaller discography but were the shows just better bc he was younger with more energy/songs were just better?

Wish I coulda been of concert going age in those days. I still think this is the tour is the best I’ve seen them (think my first show was 2006)

Have seen them on every tour, multiple shows on each tour from The Fragile onwards. For me, that really was their peak. Both in terms of the studio material but also live performances (the last shows of Wave Goodbye notwithstanding). Part of this is probably down to age and the aggression of those shows, but I think it's also due to the relative weakness of the albums that followed. With each subsequent release, the sets became more and more diluted with weaker tracks taking the place of quality from earlier material. Which is kind of where we are now...I'll happily never gear any of the material since the hiatus live, but....

The setlists were pretty static on the 90's tours. They'd maybe drop in or out a song every so often through a tour but nothing like the '09 or current tours. I agree with Pheno in that the Downward Spiral and especially the Fragile tours were the peak simply because the sets were so strong and the energy was off the charts. I thought the '05 and '06 tours (or at least the shows I caught) were decent but not enough to go see them again until the NINJA tour and the last shows in LA in '09. In fact, I'd of probably skipped the '06 tour except they had Bauhaus opening for them.

I was considering seeing them the last tour but the mediocre album, the live backing singers and Trent's seeming emphasis on being a more "mature" artiste coupled with clips from the beginning of the tour turned me off. The only reason I'm going this tour is because Trent seems determined to recapture some of the old energy and unpredictability of better days.

He is that, I think, though I am not sure he is quite delivering on the unpredictability part of it. Will be curious to hear what you think come mid-December.

For a handful of the tours (pre and up to the 'Lights in the Sky' era), I chalked up the static setlist to the increasingly eleaborate light shows which may not have allowed for spontaneity for rotating the set lists, but even at things like the Troubadour show in 2013 where it was as stripped back as it could be, it's been the same old template. I can't complain overly from the shows so far that the set lists haven't been changing....it's just unfortunate (for me!) that few of the rotation songs are things I would give my eye teeth to hear.

Anyone know the ins and outs of the palladium shows? I presume GA is best, but the stubhub tix range wildly...one is no better than another, right?
