I found a silly website that takes two Youtube videos and creates a mashup out of them. So I put in two songs that I thought were very similar and this is what it did: https://rave.dj/0a6IfnJDXXkUCg

This is great! The tone-matching is really close. I don't know what kind of algorithm they use, but it seems to work best with songs with similar rhythm, beat, pitch, and I guess also ones with fairly lengthy instrumental bits so you don't get overlapping lead vocals.
