I’m holding off listening to any of it until the album is released. 10,000 Days was 50% filler so I’m pessimistic, but hopeful regardless.
They will never reach the dizzying heights that was Ænima.
Yeah, 10,000 Days mostly sucked. Totally disappointing.
Fear Inoculum sounds like a Lateralus outtake with extremely weak vocals. I understand Maynard can't scream like 20 years ago, but it's really obvious that this music was made without him and he's just phoning in the vocals to finish the album. It barely fits the song.

Yeah, sounds like cut and paste various Tool songs in to one. Yawn.
I saw them probably 5 or so times between Aenima and Lateralus. Then I caught one 10,000 Days show and then nothing since. Like all the greats, they went from being this incredible force of nature to paint by numbers.
Same with APC. I saw them twice before they even released an album while opening for NIN. Blew me away. This last album was God awful.
Puscifer has a few good tracks. Grand Canyon is incredible.

Kind of agree with this.
The verse of the new song reminds me of Reflection. Chorus sounds like something Tool would do ... So very much agree with the copy/paste thing. They haven't reinvented themselves. Not necessarily bad ... but nothing new (on first listen).
I saw em on the Lateralus tour which was one of the best concerts I'v ever attended. Wasn't the biggest Tool fan, but got completely blown away. Saw em again during the 10.000 days tour and was bored.
I saw em last month as well, and was blown away again (could've been the acid though). Really good show, very tight ... and they played Part of Me.
But indeed - Aenima and Lateralus were great. They could only go downhill from there ...

Soooo... is anyone here an actual TOOL fan? As opposed to liking Sober and Stinkfist and thinking the rest of the catalogue is meh or all samey-samey ( kinda like I am with Metallica )..

I like Aenima and Lateralus a lot, opiate is also ok ... the rest not so much, seen em live a few times, have a few live bootlegs, most of their cd's, all of the official vinyl but am not a member of the Tool army ....
Does that make me a fan?

Not up to me to decide, I call myself a pretty big fan, though I don’t like about half of Undertow...

Agree with you on that
I'd call myself a regular fan. I like em well enough.
Listened to the song a few times. I like it better after a few listens, but sounds too much as something I heard before. Beginning reminds me of Reflection, the ending reminds me of the Grudge. Don 't like the Chorus too much

Fair enough. I’m keen as but am gonna wait til the whole album is released. So I can hear it in context from an album perspective.

It's really fucking boring.
I hope it was released simply because it's the title track. Because, as a way to open an album, it's fine.
In today's day and age of everything streaming it seems completely ridiculous to seek out the leak and download it less than a week before you can listen to it without paying a dime.

I'm going to listen to one song and see if it makes me feel as "meh" as the first track did.
And if it does, I won't bother with the rest of it.

Pneuma sounds like every song on 10,000 Days and Maynard's singing is sparse at best.
I can't believe this took them a decade and a half.
I'm not even going to bother with the rest of this. I know it's just all going to sound 99% similar to something they already did on the last 2 records. Zero growth. Adam Jones is clearly out of ideas.

I kinda had the seem feeling.
Not particularly bad, just, nothing new. And if you listen to Fear Inoculum, and then put on Aenima ... yeah well ....
The fan's reactions are pretty good though. Everybody seems to like it. Only at anr people don't like it
