Their fan base is also pretty shitty.
Their fanbase is the worst. They all think they are on some genius wavelength because they listen to Tool. And anyone who doesn't like a Tool song just isn't smart enough to understand it. It's massively cringe.

Watching them dissect the lyrics is always hilarious. They treat it like it's all some kind of spiritual awakening, and how Maynard is tapping into the secrets of the universe. Meanwhile Maynard was just writing about concepts from the last book he read and there's nothing to really dissect other than knowing that his songs are basically a book report.
I was going to link the "every TOOL fan ever" video but someone beat me to it.

The venn diagram for Tool fans and Rick and Morty fans is a circle.

Also, I thought Danny Carey wrote the lyrics. You know, like their idols, Rush?

I heard a 5 or 6 lp vinyl version will be out in November.

+- 1 song per side and artwork (etchings?) On the other side.

So, now that the album's been out for a few weeks: what are everybody's thoughts.

I kinda like it, there a few very cool pieces but it does drag on a little bit and misses the coherence of their earlier albums. Also: it never really explodes musically , if you understand what I mean. If Aenima and Lateralus are 9, this one is a 7.

So what?

Perhaps you’ve missed, or are ignoring the fact they released the exorbitantly priced Special Edition CD version, and are releasing the vinyl versions. All in 2019....

Vinyl is a medium that people are buying in 2019. In huge numbers.

CDs are not.

:lolol: vinyl is garbage, no matter what anyone says, hence why CD was invented. "Warmth"

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/musi ... aa-880959/
This trend continues in RIAA’s 2019 mid-year report, which came out on Thursday. Vinyl records earned $224.1 million (on 8.6 million units) in the first half of 2019, closing in on the $247.9 million (on 18.6 million units) generated by CD sales. Vinyl revenue grew by 12.8% in the second half of 2018 and 12.9% in the first six months of 2019, while the revenue from CDs barely budged. If these trends hold, records will soon be generating more money than compact discs.
But whatever, all of that still doesn't justify the fact they put out the expensive CD version, but so far have announced nothing about the normal-priced version, when a lot their fan-base is still "stuck" in the CD world, just as a lot are stuck in vinyl world, and a huge percentage are happy with the digital medium.

I'm glad you love buying ones and zeroes of music, me, I like having a CD - gasp!

Interestingly this article mentions that vinyl "warmth" is actually distortion of the sound... but each to their own, unless you're a TOOL fan that wants CDs, apparently..

The music on CDs is 1s and 0s.

It's a digital medium.

And it's 1s and 0s when it's recorded, because everyone records onto a computer.

You love 1s and 0s. You have for 30 years.

Stop being weird.

yeah i know, but you know what I mean. It's BS for old folk like me who just want a CD... but don't wanna pay $150.00 for it.... maybe in 40 yeas CDs will be like vinyl is now and i'll get my FI CD on my deathbed.. :lolol: and yunguns will roll their eyes at me because all music is "now" just beamed into everyone's brains (like Lobo from DC comics had one death metal song playing 24/7 in his head)...

Yeah the thing is out there for free and streaming. I think they made that clear. I like the album. It grew on me. Very prog rock. Which they've been hinting at for years. 7empest is a badass song. I still think they are a genius rhythm section. Some of those songs are harder to play and get your head around time-wise than the fastest shredder stuff. I guess this band just isn't for everyone. :noclue:

It’s certainly a change from the last records that’s for sure. Anyone bitching that they’re not growing or changing is crazy. I guess many people want a change but still the same and somehow they want to like it but can’t appreciate the changes. Even though they wanted change? But also wanted the same?

I'm a TOOL noob. They're a band for some reason I have never listened to for no particular reason. This morning I just so happened to click on them after years of them not wanting to be on Spotify and listened to The Pot which I did actually enjoy.

There must be loads of Tool aficionados out there. Which album should I listen to first?? :noclue:
