Really short set. I was actually thinking JF might play as they all lost a mutual friend a few days ago. This show is a total enigma to me; I just don't undestand the reason for it. Tail end of the tour with Coachella left and that's all she wrote...Pandemonium wrote:
What I've read on the Chili Peppers forum was that it was a good show but short and with few surprises. Not too bummed about missing out now.
RHCP
Re: RHCP
Re: RHCP
"This song was recorded for my friend Wayne Forman, the coolest, kindest friend anybody could ever have. When I used to play in arenas I would often mentally aim my playing at him. Wayne loved long guitar solos, and he was my favorite person in the audience to play for. As everyone who knew him is well aware, he was also the best chef ever. When I saw him two days ago, he was laying in front of a CD player, so when I came home I decided I'd make something for him. I recorded this solo for him to hear, but I finished it a day too late, so now it is a tribute to his memory. It is what he would have wanted me to play for him, and it is my offering to his family and friends all over the world, as well as anybody else. Wayno lives in our hearts forever, the greatest guy anybody could ever know. I'm so lucky to have been graced by his friendship. All the love in the world to him."

Re: RHCP
the guitar is cool, the vox, not so much.. sounds like something I can't quite place
Re: RHCP
Yes, the guitar is what piqued my interest. relatively sophisticated v the IWY main tracks.....I thought this lineup would evolve quickly. The vox, I get....I just don't hate AK, so I deal. One listen and I liked, so I know I'll likely end up really digging this track.

Yeah, I immediately thought this track sounded a lot like Snow Hey Oh. It makes a good B Side if such a thing even exists anymore.SR wrote:Snow?nausearockpig wrote:the guitar is cool, the vox, not so much.. sounds like something I can't quite place

I think b-sides are now called "iTunes Only Bonus Tracks" :-(
Re: RHCP
I really do like this song. And as I thought, after another listen I like it more. I have a decent feel for the tastes on the bored, and for the different personalities so I too was surprised as to a non violent response. I thought this might ride on the back of the KOL thread. But as the lone dissent, I should have known a GR lover would be mellow.
:edit: but remember, Stadium Arcadium (where Snow resides) was universally panned here.

Re: RHCP
a clip from the magical days, listen to that riff, the energy, the bitchin guitar solo, uh, so good....it's from their MSG show in 96
that whole show is really great, used to watch it a lot on vhs many years ago. It's pretty amazing to see how Dave looks like a kid kind of in the MSG video and then when you compare him to the Dave in the Mount Fuji gig below he looks pretty different, like he became a man within that year

In the last 6 months or so, I have revisited the Navarro minute in the Chilis. After some growing pains live, he was a really good fit and catalyst for a new vibe if you will. OHM is an excellent album as well. I still think the sublime Chilis are the Froosh chilies but the DN incarnation was real quality.
Re: RHCP
beautifully said, I agree 3000%. I'll add that with Dave they've never sounded as good live before or since imo, he's an excellent live player. Hillel and John were great in the studio but when it came to play the solos and stuff live they tended to be a bit on the too sloppy side.SR wrote:In the last 6 months or so, I have revisited the Navarro minute in the Chilis. Re: RHCP
Navarro changed the whole sound of the band during his time with them. OHM is still the only RHCP album I can get through in one sitting. It's just deeper...darker. The sound of his playing doesn't start to unnerve me the way Frusciante's does. Anthony was actually saying stuff in the OHM songs; not just stringing together a bunch of nonsense quasi-rhymes.
Re: RHCP
Flea also had a lot to do with the darker sound, I always loved how Flea and Dave played with each otherNYRexall wrote:Navarro changed the whole sound of the band during his time with them. Ironically, it's Flea and Flea alone who is responsible for the most lighthearted moment on the whole album ('I'm a Little Pea')

It's basically just a reworking of anarchy in the uk, which he used to play solo liveNYRexall wrote:I can agree with that.Juana wrote:Flea also had a lot to do with the darker sound, I always loved how Flea and Dave played with each otherNYRexall wrote:Navarro changed the whole sound of the band during his time with them. Red Hot Chili Peppers Play Private Show in Vancouver
MONDAY, AUGUST 5, 2013
The Red Hot Chili Peppers have no trouble playing private parties--if the price is right, of course. For example, they played Roman Abramovitch's famous New Year's Eve party in St. Bart's a couple of years ago. And you might remember several brewery-related corporate gigs for contest winners in the past.
The latest off-the-grid gig was for Chip Wilson, the founder of Lululemon. Chip's wife was celebrating her 40th birthday so he brought in the band for a reported $1 million.
