Yeah, their February 1992 SNL appearance..
First song was "Stone Cold Bush" (which was odd since they were promoting BSSM).. AK accidentally(?) kicks over John while they're all rocking out near the end of the song.
Second song was "Under the Bridge".. John was sick of the song (and sick of being in the band) and was perhaps upset over getting kicked over during the first song, so he played the song all chunky and screamed for his backing vocals near the end (instead of the usual soft "under the bridge downtown...")
I hadn't heard the "John screwing up his tuning to fuck over AK" story.
They eventually returned to SNL in May 2006 where they played "Dani California" and for some reason "Give It Away"(?)
Lol you beat me to it. I opened instagram and they had just posted the news. I am stunned.
Dot hacked? Not on their webpage.....
Had a similar thought, but it is confirmed to be real by Flea and Hillel's brother

Apparently this has been in the works since late Summer. John was spotted with Flea at a Lakers game a couple months ago as well. The cynical opinion is John is broke again after his divorce a few years ago which he supposedly got taken to the cleaners. I have mixed feelings about this, I don’t think Fruscianti being back in the band again is key to making new music any more interesting than the stuff they’ve been putting out since Stadium Arcadia. And like everyone else that’s been in the band, Josh wasn’t 100% on board with the way thing work creatively.

Flea posted an old video of him and John a few weeks ago jamming onstage. At the time, it definitely made me raise an eyebrow, but I didn't jump to any conclusions then and there.
Is there anything else you know about it? I'm dying for info. Somehow, I just think it couldn't have been a smooth departure for Josh.
By the way (haha), Josh has my eternal respect for stepping up and helping to forge the band forward for the past decade.
Oh also, I had the same thought about the divorce stuff. Alimony tour 2020

That interview... I don't know, reads very naive and whiny. What was he expecting? These guy are old-timers, they are businesspeople, they have a streamlined process. Even people outside the band would know this. Just by listening to their records, even. The Uplift Mofo Party Plan sounds very different to Mother's Milk, which sounds very different to BSSM, which sounds different to By the Way. And I'm not saying they sold out or anything, because although I don't like their output anymore, they're still apparently massively successful. So, this works for them and their audience. But Josh doesn't like it and thinks they don't need their producer? Ohh, poor thing.
And he bases his arguments in how he worked in his own albums Seriously... who gives a fuck about how you worked on them.

I'm just wondering if they fired Josh to bring back John.

The only thing I'm previously aware of is they have some 2020 festival dates lined up on the East Coast in May and some more Festival shows through Europe in the Summer. Plus supposedly they were well through recording their newest studio album but who knows what the outcome of that is at this point. I would not be surprised if they play at least one or more small venue shows in SoCal to drum up interest and celebrate John back in the band such as a Hollywood Palladium gig in late Spring before doing these Summer dates.

Flea: "Hi Josh, Anthony couldn't be here on the phone to tell you this with me but uh, we decided to bring John back so um, thanks for your service and when John bails again, you'll be our number one pick again. Love ya!"
Josh: "wha....?!?"

It is a strange turn for the band. I don't think this is any favor or gesture of mercy to relieve a perceived financial burden. Remember, RHCP divides equally all of their earnings. AK, Flea, and CS are probably in the 150 million dollar range of net worth. Conservatively, JF is worth 50 million. I don't know anything of the deets of his divorce. I am not sure anyone does. I have done periodic searches on JF for some years now and his off the grid status made me wonder more about his addiction/mental health than anything. If he took a bath in his divorce, he's still worth tens of millions.
I think it's a last hard charge at relevancy. I think they hope to finish their careers as a unit and maybe roll the dice on one more piece of magic that John is a lightning rod for. There really isn't a more forgiving Chili fan than I; I have loved them since the late 80's and they were impactful in my kiddo and mines relationship, but they really fell off in other ways than age would dictate recently. Granted, they hadn't played Purple Stain in over a decade, but their version at the Conservatory show a few weeks ago was embarrassing. I am really pleased all in all. JF is one of the very rare talents that doesn't reveal itself very often. At worst he will maintain unassailable cred for them moving into the twilight...at best, something special can happen.
Compare. The latter is one of my favorite performances.....just caveman primal good shit.
His vocal range will go far to expand their sonics and allow for more tunes to be added to their live catalogue. Hope to see Venice Queen again

It's just so...last ditch cash grab...who cares? I see a few...but it just feels too hollow imho
Is anyone seriously expecting anything of value (aside the all mighty dollar) to come outa this?

I love the chilis but doesn't everyone think they've been past their best for a long, long time now?
Not sure how JF is going to change anything...

They could have easily continued cash grabbing with Josh. The diehards bitched, but never ditched. The casual fan who was willing to pay for a show to see Under the Bridge never cared.

Who knows? This could just sum out to JK wanting out and JF being ok with another run
