Girl bands.

#1 Post by Turncoat » Thu Oct 20, 2011 6:41 am

Alright, gang... I'm lookin' for some recommendations.

I've always had a deep love and admiration for Fiona Apple, Portishead, and The Carpenters. I've always enjoyed the work of PJ Harvey, Veruca Salt, and even Poe. I love 8mm and most girl-fronted trip-hop kinda lounge stuff. Lately, I've found myself captivated by St. Vincent and Chelsea Wolfe and liking what I hear from Wild Flag and The Ettes... and it made me wonder... what else have I been missing out on whilst subjecting my eardrums to the persistent stoner rock penis party?

What other bands (groups, solo-acts, whatever) are fronted by a mournful female lead vocal over sort of sad and/or intense music?

Do yourself a favor and buy every PJ Harvey album. You'll eventually be thankful. I may take time.

startlingly heavy. I even made the face I involuntarily make, when listening to doom metal.

i don't think the band has to be all girls. i do think he wants songs he can cry to so they are probably not the right band...L7 too.

1. I never cry.
2. This is really just my recent realization that I seem to connect to the melodic structures of female writers. There's something in there that just hits right. Although almost every one of the bands/singers I like has a male backing band adding to the overall feel... BUT I tend to like the sonic quality and emotional overtones of female singers.

Lush

Lush were an English alternative rock band, formed in 1987 and disbanded in 1998.

Love the cleavage shots... and the music doesn't sound bad either.
