I love Jenny Lewis (she was in Rilo Kiley). This isn't for everyone (it's got a "California rock" vibe) but I love it. Ryan Adams plays on this track and produced the album.

I did my monthly trip to Amoeba Records in Hollywood and among the stuff I picked up was the new Savages album "Adore Life."

I've given it a few listens and while it's a very good album, it doesn't have quite the visceral kick the debut album had and falls a bit short of my expectations. Some of it is down to the production which seems to take the edge off everything but most of it is due to the songs themselves. My biggest snivel is there's very little of the almost Danny Ash/Bauhaus-style guitar work that made previous songs like "City's Full," "Strife" and "I Am Here" so appealing (to me anyway). Still, it *is* good and I look forward to seeing them live when they eventually play the West Coast later this year.

They seem to have a pretty big following here in LA. I saw about 6 other people walking around with or buying the album in the hour or so I was in the store and the counter guy told me they had sold literally hundreds of the album in the past two days.

Fuck yeah, day before my birthday. Great venue, goes a long way to easing the pain of the canceled Killing Joke tour. Thanks for the heads up, Artemis.

I missed them last year, but I like Sleater-Kinney. I didn't know about them until I became a fan of Portlandia. If I were gay, I would love to meet someone like Carrie.

HINDS

C. Barnett opened the Blur show I caught in the fall. For all the hype, the live show fell flat for me, though I'm guessing the venue (Hollywood Bowl) was too large for me "to get" her performance.

Also looking forward to the new Thao & and the Get Down Stay Down record:

Thirdly, Casey Scott's Creep City is, IMO, a sadly overlooked record:

Some greats bands suggested here, been digging most of these last year but had a huge thing for L7 for a while now

No mention of little fish who are worthy of note (now defunct)

Yes to this band... great fun live. Seen them a bunch of times and seeing them again in a few weeks. Debut album came out recently and it's got a great surfy twang on a couple of tunes.

A few pics I took from last night's Savages show. I was up in the mezzanine, so not that great.
Very good show and very loud! Even with earplugs I found it loud.. :oldtimer:

The new material from Adore Life sounds much better live than on the album.

Jehnny Beth is a really great front woman. I love her energy and charisma. I was a little disappointed that she didn't crowd surf, but she did get right up front with the fans. The rest of the band is very polished and very professional- solid musicians. :thumb:
Surprisingly, they had a good light show.

Sorry my review is not Pandamonium quality. :hide:

Here is their setlist of 18 songs

Sounds great, I'm really looking forward to the 18th. Been a while since I've seen a band for the first time.
