Re: Movies
Typically I don't watch much in the way of action or suspense/thriller type films...I stick to comedies, documentaries, some dramas...but my wife was watching this and though I initially didn't pay it much mind as I thought it would prolly be stupid as hell, I did get a chance to check it out a week later...should have stuck with my initial feelings...initially interesting it ultimately was a hot steaming pile of monkey crap, and one of the most frustrating endings I can ever recall seeing in a movie...I was so pissed I wanted to throw the remote at the TV...

Reminds me of ever gay flight attendant I met while working in a hotel. Those dudes are truly crazy.perkana wrote:Psyched about the new Almodóvar movie

It looks like this movie is going to be very funny, I like Almodovar's somber movies, but the last one was just too damn crazy for my taste
Re: Movies
i don't know if anyone is watching the latest season of californication. i really used to enjoy this show but now it is so unbelievably over the top and ridiculous. a good show ruined.

Re: Movies
Finally saw Zero Dark Thirty tonight. It was good but I think a little over rated by the Hollywood elite. The actual raid on Osamas' compound was really to dark to see anything except when they occasional used the green night goggle pov shots. I know it was a creative choice to no doubt "immerse" the viewer in what the SEALs were dealing with, but I could of just as well turned off the tv and listen to the audio only once the helicopters were up in the air. And they really chickened out not showing any clear view of OBL when he was killed.

Re: Movies
So tonight I watched The Hobbit. Peter Jackson could have trimmed this down to 90 minutes and it still would move slow. Still, it looked beautiful on my new '65 Plasma and there *was* a few pretty cool sequences in it. But it really bugs me even in a fantasy adventure flick like this that people can fall a couple thousand feet down cliffs or outta the sky and basically get up and dust themselves off without a scratch like it's a roadrunner cartoon.
Re: Movies
Because it just turned 20, I tried watching Clerks last night and I fell asleep (started watching it after midnight). Will try again today.

Re: Movies
Tonight's movie was "Life Of Pi" in 3D Blu-ray. This was also another recent movie that I initially had little interest (and really no opportunity) in catching during it's theatrical run that I saw tonight for the first time. Didn't really expect to get drawn in by the story but it turned out to be very enjoyable and I'll no doubt revisit it numerous times.
I'd rate this at the very top of any 3D Blu-ray I've seen thus far. It's not just the overall quality, it's how it's used in the framework of the movie. There's some gimmicky use such as when a swarm of flying fish suddenly appear around the lifeboat (some literally come at you out of the screen like a 50's sci-fi/horror movie) but it's also used effectively in "normal" shots early in the movie that give otherwise mundane scenes realistic depth. When I bought my 3D plsma tv a month ago, having 3D hasn't really a buying point with me but several movies, especially this one make me appreciate and enjoy the feature a lot more than I thought I would.
Life Of Pi gets my highest recommendation.

Re: Movies
Life of Pi has stirred absolutely no interest in me, but feel like it will be a great film.....I know, strange.
Finally saw Argo a couple of nights ago; I was not impressed considering all the hype. This film beat Lincoln for best adapted screenplay which even sight unseen surprised me. Having seen it, the writing was far inferior to Lincoln.

Re: Movies
My son had a short day at school so I shorted my day to pick him up at noon and to kill a few hours he picked a movie to see which turned out to be OZ. Pretty good, some neat visual tricks in 3D thanks to director Mr Evil Dead himself, Sam Raimi. Still, there was some stretches where I closed my eyes and almost conked out. And why does every movie like this have to feature the two lead supernatural characters flying around in a room throwing bolts of lightning at each other for the finale? Probably the biggest problem though was (mis)casting James Franco as the wizard. He acts (and looks kinda) like Tom Cruise on speed through most of the movie.

Agree about Argo. I am baffled how it won Best Picture.SR wrote: Life of Pi has stirred absolutely no interest in me, but feel like it will be a great film.....I know, strange.

Life of Pi needs to be seen while tripping.
Re: Movies
I regret not watching Life of Pi in 3D. That Ang Lee is a fucking genius
Re: Movies
finally watched Drive, love it, great perfomance by Ryan Gosling. It's by one of the few danish directors worth paying attention to, Nicolas Winding Refn.
Re: Movies
Today I saw Kung Fu Hustle. Pretty entertaining, good comedy moments and some lovely choreographic fights. 6/10.

I really enjoyed Kung Fu Hustle the first time I saw it. Everything was so out of left field, especially the almost "Roadrunner" cartoon-style humor. Two other similar movies I'd recommend would be "Bunraku" and "The Good, The Bad and The Weird."Larry B. wrote:Today I saw Kung Fu Hustle. I'm looking forward to seeing Behind the Candelabra.
Michael Douglas is cast as Liberace.
When I was in Vegas for my 40th, I went to the Liberace Museum and bought one of these for a souvenir.

It's difficult not to appreciate JR's story. My son will be 18 in July, and when he was young asked about jerseys to which I always replied I wouldn't wear any other mans name on my back......except JR. So when he was very young we got him a JR jersey. The seperation between the common sports hero and JR is obvious and unwittingly I reinforced that with my jersey 'issue'.
The film was good, noit great and I still shed a tear or two watching it my son.

Re: Movies
I tried to see 42 last night and all the shows were sold out. I didn't think it would be that popular. I'll end up seeing it soon, love me some baseball movies.
