Who here praised Election recently? Just watched some of it, had to bail after 20, what a piece of junk. :jasper: I figured that because Broderick is in it it might hold up, he did do such a good job in FBDO, but no...

I did, too bad you didn't like it. Broderick is top notch in that flick and so is Reese.

Yeah well, you're not alone in liking it, it gets a 92% rating over at Rotten tomatoes, which is fucking baffling to me. To me it's on the level of Friends or something, but to each his own, right.....

The Election was alright. None of the characters are likable, which is the point in this acerbic dark comedy, but just has that yucky feeling throughout. It's a smart film, but wasn't enjoyable, maybe some people enjoy that... :noclue:

If you want more Broderick in the vain of FBDO, try Wargames or the Freshman.

Or if you want a little Walken to go with your Broderick, try biloxi blues....a lot of good one liners.. :thumb:

Speaking of smart comedies.

I would highly recommend Mr. Shore's string of masterpieces from the early 90s.

It began with Encino Man, followed up soon therafter with Son in Law and the crowning glory - In the Army Now.

The genius dropped off a bit with Bio-Dome and Jury Duty is alright if you are bored...

That is all.... :tiphat:

Saw Paulie open for Sam Kinison once and was shocked by how dirty his material was compared to his image and movies...he was funny though...oh course I was a lot of years younger then...doubt it would age well

Yeah, I havent watched in like 20 years.....but dunno, seeing those clips again, I think I am inspired to revisit.....

I always loved his stuff.... so stupid :hehe:

He actually has a pretty interesting story. Grew up in the Comedy Store in Hollywood. Mom, Mitzi, founded it.

The Gentle Richard Pryor

Pryor rebooted his career at the Comedy Store in the 1970s.

My mom was very close with Richard Pryor — she took him under her wing. I know they had sex one time, but their relationship wasn’t a sex thing, it was a love-intimacy-respect thing.

When Richard showed up at the Store, it was like a wave went through the club: “Richard’s here, oh my God, Richard’s here.” I’d go out to the parking lot and open the door of his car. He’d get out, say “Heeeeey little man!” and shake my hand. He wasn’t socially awkward, the way most comedians are offstage; he was gentle and soft.

Here's some other stuff, I dont remember seeing.... I will check out.

Yup. Some movies I have watched because they have been praised by others, but I guess I've only liked the ones liked by people who have the same taste as me.
One I totally didn't get how someone could have liked was The Shining's sequel Dr. Sleep. I really thought the story was very stupid and the movie just exploited the original movie's iconic scenes. Then I read that the book is actually about that. But then I realize that I've read all the True Blood books and I know they are trash, but they are like junk to read, Summer reading by the pool. So I guess it's the same for Stephen King's fans :noclue:

I know you were supposed to be rooting for the slum family to pull it out of the mess they were in that fancy house, I only sort of cared if they did or not.... :bored:

So I watched " The Art of Racing in the Rain" the other night.
As someone with a 13 year old dog and who has been on the shit end of a custody dispute, I will 100% never recommend that movie to anyone.
