What are you reading?
Re: What are you reading?
I have no idea how that is possible, unless it refers to content.
Re: What are you reading?
Weather permitting, I'll be picking this up tomorrow at a book signing/reading:

Re: What are you reading?
I'm about 1/3 way thru. It's fun so far.
Re: What are you reading?
I'm reading this now. It is very boring so far, I was surprised because I love Edward Abbey.
I am very much looking forward to this though; geology and Indonesia on the mind. got it in the mail yesterday.

I remember, you are in to geology. Did you go to school for it, or just a general interest?

i've taken a bunch of geology courses and was almost a geology major but went another direction. as a back up plan i was just admitted to the geology program at csu bakersfield (one of three csu schools that accepts second bachelors students). i am starting a new job so i doubt i will go but it's there just in case.

I will take that as an unabashed 10/10 then.
Yeah, geology is really cool. I'm really interested in the Missoula Floods lately, as they really had an effect on my property vs. a couple hundred feet higher on the hill.

Re: What are you reading?
I was reading this (and it's very good):
but Adrian McKinty is one of my favorite writers and his new book came out:
So, I've put down Middle Passage until I finish Gun Street Girl.

Is the title inspired by the Tom Waits song Gun Street Girl?blackcoffee wrote: but Adrian McKinty is one of my favorite writers and his new book came out:

It is indeed. As are the first three: The cold cold ground, I hear the sires in the street, And in the morning I'll be gone

Interesting. I'm not familiar with Adrian McKinty, will take a look at the library for his books.blackcoffee wrote:It is indeed. As are the first three: The cold cold ground, I hear the sires in the street, And in the morning I'll be gone

Re: What are you reading?
I think his novel Dead I May Well Be is one of his best. Something of a literate crime thriller about an Irish Man living in NY to escape the troubles who falls for his crime boss's girl.
Re: What are you reading?
Discover the Power Within You by Eric Butterworth.

I checked online at the library and see that he has many titles.blackcoffee wrote:I think his novel Dead I May Well Be is one of his best. Something of a literate crime thriller about an Irish Man living in NY to escape the troubles who falls for his crime boss's girl.

Upon your recommendation, I placed a hold on Dead I May Well Be.

Re: What are you reading?
Not yet but when it comes out:
Re: What are you reading?
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Trainspotting movie...(probably will watch it this weekend in a theater)
Re: What are you reading?
i hope one day to read another book. it's been a few years. the internet has fried my brain. seriously......
Re: What are you reading?
I swear you would read more if you spent a couple of hours on the subway every day (I only read during one of my rides, I usually sleep on my way back home).
Re: What are you reading?
impossible. i could never read in public. i have to be 100% aware of what's going on around me. i am always amazed at people that can read and never look up. i do think that quality makes me a good driver.perkana wrote:I swear you would read more if you spent a couple of hours on the subway every day (I only read during one of my rides, I usually sleep on my way back home).
Re: What are you reading?
I would agree with you on that (I'm not a bad driver, but I don't love driving), You get used to it. I guess it's the only time I have for myself, besides going to shows and the movies.creep wrote:impossible. i could never read in public. i have to be 100% aware of what's going on around me. i am always amazed at people that can read and never look up. i do think that quality makes me a good driver.perkana wrote:I swear you would read more if you spent a couple of hours on the subway every day (I only read during one of my rides, I usually sleep on my way back home).

Re: What are you reading?
I also only read for leisure when I'm commuting on the train (i have to read a lot of books and articles for school but those dont count).
I can't remember the last time I read fiction though. I just read the New Yorker on the train and it takes me the whole week and then I get the next issue so it keeps me busy.
