Weezer Covers Up the Beach

#1 Post by Noonesshocking » Wed Mar 13, 2019 10:39 am

Kinda fun, in my opinion. Looks like they're kind of going for 1.0 stage vibe during that song too - just smoke and lights. Reminds me of amateur footage from youtube.

Would have thought they'd cover BCS if they were gonna cover any Jane's tune.

This was a decent enough cover, but I think everything they're doing right now is garbo.

If doing everything right means they are more popular than ever yeah...but their new music is not good. they are no longer a "cool college band"

Synth pop is pretty huge right now. They already put out, what, like 10 guitar records?

Enjoy the break from the same old thing.

Well, at least you have their Van Halen inspired record to look forward to.

https://loudwire.com/rivers-cuomo-weezer-big-guitars/
"What I've been working on the last two weeks is back to big guitars," Cuomo says before comparing his songwriting surge to tunes on the band's 1994 debut. "Blue Album-ish, but a little more riffy. The working title is Van Weezer."

I see people on this board say stuff like this and it makes me wonder:

What type of music do you all listen to throughout the week? And how do you listen?

Are there specific channels? Genres? Do you fire up Pandora and set it to play music that sounds like a certain artist? Still listening to old CDs? Old MP3s? Curated Spotify playlists?

I have Sirius, and spend the vast majority of my time tuned into Alt Nation (Current Alternative. Which ironically shares very little in common with the "Alternative/Alternative Rock" of the 90s) or XMU (What we in our teens would have called "college rock" but is more closely defined today as "indie") or I'll listen to Apple Music curated playlists featuring these same genres.

So everything I listen to has pretty much been released in the last 10 years and as recent as yesterday.

I didn't say that.

I own the blue album. And the recent teal album (the cover song one)

and that's it.

I am just always surprised at the lack of knowledge about modern music sometimes. You guys all seem so passionate about music, but then the Riot Fest or Coachella lineups are announced and everyone is like "I have never heard of 99% of these people"

Hence my question:

What ARE you listening to? Where? How do you discover new artists? Are you discovering new artists or sticking to the classics?

Funny... I didn't think there was any "rawk" anymore. That was a 2000s thing -- the death of rock. Most radio now is either some kind of indie (formerly alternative stations have mostly converted), or rap or just straight pop/electronic stuff.

I think most major cities have a modern rock station that plays whatever current rock is being promoted. It's all shit, but it's still out there.

Hmm. The ones that used to play that up here all seem to be playing nostalgia-driven alt-hits + new indie. What I mean is that there's very little Incubus on the radio these days (cf. 2003).

This is painfully true. The guy looks and seems like an idiot but he writes some good songs (sorta like Perry).
