When they play aggresively, it's pure hardcore punk, I can hear some Bad Brains.
when they play slower is funk tribal metal, when they play even slower is psychedelic goth...
It's almost impossible to define Janes genre.
Dave plays Van Halen, Eric plays Joy Division, Perry sing mix Robert Plant/Roots Dub, Stephen plays tribal, everything at speed of hardcore punk.
Then next song is completely different.
They were unique band.

By the 70s/80s unique, "no rules" definition of punk rock, they absolutely were...just like Ministry was, for example.
Unfortunately, punk was on its way to becoming a "genre" (of one sound) and a brand...so by the 90s, shit like "new punk" and the Warped tour were the results.
A band like Christian Death was a million times more "punk rock" than any 90s band that was on a shit record label like Epitaph.
Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
believe it or not, that is punk rock.
Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
I'm convinced you got into Jane's because in Whores Perry says the N-word.
PS: That's not punk rock.

I'm convinced you don't know what punk rock truly is.
ironically... you do happen to live way down low where the streets are littered..

i think i had 10 beers in me when i made this thread
Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
I regard "punk rock" as a label. It was hard to pin a label on early Jane's. That's what blew me away. They sure had big cojones. In that sense they were punk, but not in a Sex Pistols kinda way. Oh well, not that important I guess.
Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
Jane's Addiction absolutely had punk DNA. Anything that is fuck you, in your face, challenging the system has that DNA.
Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
Janes were so Punk that they weren't really punk!
Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
Right!
There never was a Punk Rock band.
Its an oxymoron.

Re: remember when jane's addiction was punk rock?
They were punk in the sense that they didn't seem to give a shit and didn't sell out to become pop artists. JA had the attitude to question authority "the man" and everybody really. They definitely had the "fuck you" spirit about them which is very punk rock, imho.
It's sad that we have to speak of JA in the past tense.

All of their videos from back in the day were “punk rock”.
