We cut that one out of our lives, out of the band.

We cut that one out of our lives, out of the band.
The odd man out here is Chris Chaney. The bassist has logged 14 years in Jane’s and he plays on their two most recent studio records, 2003’s Strays and 2011’s The Great Escape Artist. (The Jane’s bass spot has also been filled over the years by Flea, Duff McKagan, and Martyn LeNoble.) Farrell initially wanted to keep Chaney in the band as a fifth member, but it didn’t wind up making sense.
“Chris knew that this day would come because we talked about it,” says Farrell. “When Taylor died, things really changed in our relationship. We can definitely call it ‘estranged.’ I do not have a good separation with Chris Chaney, that’s for sure. He was very close with Taylor. He was kind of our connection. And now that Taylor is no longer there… Time is ticking. It’s time to take care of fuckin’ unfinished business.”
I forgot all about that. Why would Taylor dying change their relationship? A lot doesn’t add up with that whole thing.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Thu Apr 20, 2023 8:45 pmThis was from that Rolling Stone article last fall:

Right. His favorite band seemed to be Janes. And no representation from them at his concerts. It’s weird.Tyler Durden wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 4:33 amThe fact that no one from the Jane’s camp was involved in the TH tribute concerts speaks volumes. Not even Dave was there.
What if it just revolves around Chaney and there isn't more to it?
It would have made the most sense to have Perry there,m. There were a few acts at those shows in a partial configuration - it would have been optimal to have full Jane’s but it certainly was not necessary. I mean, you get Perry up there to sing Been Caught Stealing with FF at 3 in the afternoon and there’s your Jane’s representation for Taylor. Especially when you consider they had just done it 6 months earlier with “Foo’s Addiction” written on Taylor’s bass drum.Six7Six7 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:03 pmWhat if it just revolves around Chaney and there isn't more to it?
Chaney had known Taylor going all the way back to their time in Alanis's band back in 1995.
He and Dave would be the likely 2, because of NHC, asked to participate.
Dave was obviously dealing with "long covid" ( ) and unable to perform, and Chaney was either too broken up about losing his friend that he either 1.) declined or 2.) didn't have a band to play with since Taylor was NHC's singer and he was fired from Jane's.
So what... you're going to invite Perry, Etty, Eric, and Stephen to jam some Jane's songs with a guitar player other than Dave (who Taylor was in band with), and a bass player who isn't Chaney (who Taylor was in 2 bands with)?
That just sounds like the wrong group to play Ocean Size in Taylor's memory, if you ask me. No Dave, No Chaney... fuck it (?)
He is the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction and has performed songs from said band with Foo Fighters on multiple occasions.
Well, he pissed off Chris Chaney, one of Taylor's actual friends.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:38 pmHe is the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction and has performed songs from said band with Foo Fighters on multiple occasions.
lol he was friends with all the members of Jane’s and and evidently spent 2 years trying to get Eric back in the band… while Chaney was still in it.Six7Six7 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:41 pmWell, he pissed off Chris Chaney, one of Taylor's actual friends.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:38 pmHe is the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction and has performed songs from said band with Foo Fighters on multiple occasions.
So that idea was out.
Which definitely makes no sense since Jane's Addiction would never agree to playing as a 5 piece band.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:47 pmlol he was friends with all the members of Jane’s and and evidently spent 2 years trying to get Eric back in the band… while Chaney was still in it.Six7Six7 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:41 pmWell, he pissed off Chris Chaney, one of Taylor's actual friends.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:38 pmHe is the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction and has performed songs from said band with Foo Fighters on multiple occasions.

Taylor was friends with all of them and obviously a huge fan of the band. None of them being there is much weirder than can be explained by Chaneys departure.Six7Six7 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:41 pmWell, he pissed off Chris Chaney, one of Taylor's actual friends.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:38 pmHe is the lead singer of Jane’s Addiction and has performed songs from said band with Foo Fighters on multiple occasions.

That’s also a head scratcher. If Taylor was advocating Eric’s return, and Chaney and Perry flat out had a conversation about it, then why the hard feelings? Was he promised he was going to be part of the band going forward?
I swear some of you guys just aren’t paying attention.Six7Six7 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:03 pmWhat if it just revolves around Chaney and there isn't more to it?

Can you really blame us for not knowing Chaney was there??Moschops wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 3:42 pmI swear some of you guys just aren’t paying attention.Six7Six7 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 2:03 pmWhat if it just revolves around Chaney and there isn't more to it?

While he was doing NHC Taylor was also recording with Eric on a project. Wonder if everyone crossed paths at his house at some point
