the first album is 10x better. I really only liked Tahitian Moon.

GGU wasn’t for me, liked some of the songs but it was too breezy and far removed from that BRILLIANT first record.
Like the sound of the new track though.

These opinions are wild to me. The first record was fine, but a little one dimensional. GGU is a trip. It’s lush and layered and has depth to it. Porpoise Head alone is far, far more interesting than anything off the first record.nausearockpig wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 12:51 amClarifying my comment because I know you all care…creep wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 8:29 pm+3

I sometimes wonder if the fact that I lived by the ocean when that record came out had an influence on my opinion. I’ll never forget the day it came out, sitting in my car at the beach listening to it in a light drizzle, smoking a joint, and thinking it was such a stunningly weird, trippy and beautiful record.
It almost makes me sad to think people didn’t get to have that same experience with that record.

I liked GGU, but didn’t love it as much as S/T when I first got my hands on it in 2007. I was 18 and had been listening to that first record for a year or two at that point. I guess I just liked that one better because it has more energy and I was young.
Anyway, GGU revealed itself to me in these little moments over time and by my late twenties I had come to love it as much as the first record. They’re equal in my mind now.
What’s funny is that I never really loved Tahitian Moon all that much and I still think it’s easily the weakest song on the record.

I’d really like this song to leak like in the old days. Am excited to hear it.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
It was my first day one new release. It was 94ish that I got in to Janes and Porno. I thought the first P4P was ok, but it didn’t evoke the feelings that the Janes records did, especially ritual. And while Good Gods Urge also didn’t evoke the same feelings Janes did, it was inspiring to me in a similar way. “I want to take this trip.” Ritual and GGU are the two Perry records I’ve listened to more than any other. Very different, but both had such a huge influence on my life.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
I don’t own any Jane’s vinyl, but I do have GGU
The album is flawless. It’s one of those 90s records that just has a little bit of everything and it’s exactly what music should be.
I always preferred bands that didn’t have a defined “sound”, where a tribal acoustic number was just as likely to be the next song as an uptemp rock song.
Perry’s voice is much more suited to PFP for the last 20 years and dude should have cranked out 3-4 records in that time. In fact, I think he has given interviews saying he has that much material ready to go. For someone who barely tours, has adult children, and only has a handful of Lollapalooza’s to show up to a few weekends a year, I legit don’t know what he does with his time. Maybe it’s none of our business.
But, unlike the other musicians from his era who died, the lack out output from him really is perplexing. He’s still here and just nothing is happening.

I thought his output was fairly regular until Great Escape Artist and then him and Dave just stopped recording and focused nostalgia touring after that (aside from Kind Heaven and NHC).
That’s why I’m bummed this is going to be an EP. Agua and the other two songs have been done for well over a year- I thought maybe they pushed the tour back because they want to record more songs. I know Pete said on here there’s at least 15 songs ready to go

I don’t care who said what, there’s no chance that they have 15 songs on tap. There’s maybe 4. The rest are probably songs Pete has, that he had an intention of being PFP songs. I’ll bet anyone.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
Yeah that’s a good point- it’s one thing to have songs and it’s another thing to get Perry to buy in. Stephen would probably always be down to do as many songs as possible.Juan% wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 7:19 pmsomeguy wrote: ↑Fri Nov 10, 2023 3:33 pmI thought his output was fairly regular until Great Escape Artist and then him and Dave just stopped recording and focused nostalgia touring after that (aside from Kind Heaven and NHC).

That’s cool it’s 4 songs though- an appropriate number of songs for an EP

If we’re living on the west coast, think we can expect Agua to drop at 9PM today if Spotify follows the east coast time zone? Or when do song typically release on Spotify

Correct. Or at least it’s usually this way. But we’re talking about Team Perry here, so maybe it’ll come out next Tuesday.blackcoffee wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2023 1:47 pmIf we’re living on the west coast, think we can expect Agua to drop at 9PM today if Spotify follows the east coast time zone? Damn...I miss THESE guys
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
They’ll be back on soon.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
Guess bring in Japan, I'm the first to hear this? It's on my Spotify. But only one song.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
Wow, it definitely has the old vibes. I dig it.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
If anyone has a vpn they can access the song on Apple Music and Spotify now- I’m just gonna wait it out
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
Welp, time to make my teenager help me figure out a VPN.
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
Most browsers have free plugin ones. Not sure if streamers are as up on blocking free VPNs as Netflix
Re: “Agua” out 11/16
I’m so so happy with this. Other than Perry’s older sounding voice, it sounds like it would have been on a record with Hard Charger.
I was able to play it very loud on some great speakers and it was transcendent for me. Just a flood of memories from nearly 30 years ago when I last heard new P4P music. I’m so very happy with this and how much it maintains the spirit of an incredible band that was terribly underrated.
