But she didn’t make the sculpture. She “co-created” it as she eventually acknowledges herself. What does that even mean? Ive noticed she’s never claimed to have had the vision for it. That it was her idea. Did she work alongside Perry and help flesh out the concept? I’m sure. But based on her own words, I’ve never gotten the impression Perry helped her make it, but that she helped him.

I asked her if she had contributed to the writing of lyrics. The difference between NS/RDLH and Strays was vast. I've always suspected she did (even if it was subconscious), as her poetry is very Janesy. She said she had nothing to do with that. Her influence on 85-91 is also vast.

It's interesting, because if Perry is trying to repair damaged relationships with former friends/collaborators (Martyn, Eric) and bow out gracefully, he really ought to factor Casey into this equation.

But that's not how it works with ex-girlfriends, especially when you're married.

It's a shame, because deep down I imagine Perry is fond of that era and the fruits of that relationship. All those feelings will have returned to him when he saw the sculpture... but how does one acknowledge that while also being sensitive to one's wife? Tricky.

The other band members saying something nice about Casey or 'liking' an Instagram post is probably the only public reconciliation there'll be between her and "Jane's Addiction".

It's kind of a weird deal. It's not as though Perry is taking that album cover art piece on a gallery tour and trying to sell it. If that's the case, I can see Casey having a point. It was literally just brought out for a photo op. And Perry has two practically adult kids now. He's moved on. Really at this point she's a girlfriend from 30 years ago.

I can sort of see Casey having a grievance in the respect that the covers for both Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual were co-created by Perry and Casey, as well as made in her likeness. So if she’s seeking monetary gain, this is something she should’ve been working on like 20 years ago, as these covers have been used on officially licensed merch for many years. Seems a little weird that this recent Instagram post was the last straw. With a good lawyer, she MAY be entitled to a LITTLE something…though it certainly wouldn’t be anything that would remotely support her children after she’s gone or something (nor should it be).

Again, as someone stated earlier…album cover art is usually a few for service, without a cut of royalties; likely the same scenario for her directing their music videos and why she probably didn’t see a dime from the Cabinet of Curiosities box set. The absence of a Gift re-release does make me wonder if it was shelved because Perry/Etty didn’t want to have to pay Casey her cut.

Casey has likely just reached that age where, with more years behind her than in front of her, she is considering her legacy. Fair play I suppose.

The Nevermind dude is a nutcase though. Dude has recreated that cover a half dozen times over the years for music mags, and is NOW all of a sudden claiming it harmed him in some way

Casey literally wore the plaster on her naked body that became the molds for the Nothing’s Shocking cover. She directed their music videos and co-directed Gift. She inspired songs by the band.

The Nevermind baby could’ve gone his entire life without knowing he was on the cover, had no one told him.

I don’t think Jane’s would be as special as it is without Casey.

The band had mystery, magic and danger. She was a part of that.

Only now, that it has surfaced and she thinks there is a buck to be made, does she care.

Stick the damn thing in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Put her and Perry's names both on it as creators. Give her a free pass to visit it anytime she is in Cleveland.
