I don't think they have what it takes.elbuitre wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:00 pmMy expectations are slightly higher because:JOEinPHX wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 3:00 pmWhy? Both Eric and Perry have BOTH said that they are basically in a place of "Fuck it, we're getting old"
1) Even if Eric only retains 10% of what he had during 1.0, he’s going to improve whatever Perry brings to the table.
2) He seems to have the personality to be able to challenge Perry on bad ideas.
3) He seems to understand what made 1.0 so good. That doesn’t mean he’s necessarily able to repeat that level of quality but at least he seems to get what made it great.
That doesn’t mean I expect a great or even very good album. But I would hope it’s better than TGEA.
Imminent Redemption being 3 minutes long tells me that THEY think they are still trying to make singles for radio.
Radio is not going to play new Jane's Addiction.
Radio barely plays old Jane's Addiction.
I heard Pets on Sirius this morning (shout out Lithium!) and when the bass started my literal first thought was "These guys would never have the kind of patience today to make this song"
No one is going to take the time to say "This needs flute/bongos/horns/etc..." or "Let's make the listener wait 10 full seconds before any other instruments even start"
I'd love to be pleasantly surprised but I think they are going to do what they THINK the industry wants now, and in the end what we'll get is 10 three minute pop songs. And only 7 of them will be new.
