All the strange weirdo art rock elements of the early Janes are gone. Perry's voice, echoes, deep lyrics, Casey's influence, dub, violin... Now its more conventional rock.
This is it in a nutshell. I have slightly higher expectations for new songs based on Eric's involvement. But only slightly.
Why? Both Eric and Perry have BOTH said that they are basically in a place of "Fuck it, we're getting old"
My expectations are slightly higher because:

1) Even if Eric only retains 10% of what he had during 1.0, he’s going to improve whatever Perry brings to the table.

2) He seems to have the personality to be able to challenge Perry on bad ideas.

3) He seems to understand what made 1.0 so good. That doesn’t mean he’s necessarily able to repeat that level of quality but at least he seems to get what made it great.

That doesn’t mean I expect a great or even very good album. But I would hope it’s better than TGEA.
I don't think they have what it takes.

Imminent Redemption being 3 minutes long tells me that THEY think they are still trying to make singles for radio.

Radio is not going to play new Jane's Addiction.

Radio barely plays old Jane's Addiction.

I heard Pets on Sirius this morning (shout out Lithium!) and when the bass started my literal first thought was "These guys would never have the kind of patience today to make this song"

No one is going to take the time to say "This needs flute/bongos/horns/etc..." or "Let's make the listener wait 10 full seconds before any other instruments even start"

I'd love to be pleasantly surprised but I think they are going to do what they THINK the industry wants now, and in the end what we'll get is 10 three minute pop songs. And only 7 of them will be new.

I heard IR on Toronto radio yesterday and was shocked. Didn't expect it to get any airplay up here.

I only listen to XM, and they’ve been playing it on The Spectrum.

I do! :oldtimer:

CBC radio most of the time, Indie 88 and Q107

In the very early 80s I won concert tickets on CHUM AM. I forgot what number caller I was but I got through using the rotary dial telephone. It was for Genesis at Maple Leaf Gardens.

Of course. I love having jack fm on my boom box all morning while I clean and cook breakfast.

I still listen to the radio because I drive an old car and the CD player is broken, amongst other things

It’s always weird to me when I hear any Janes addiction song on the radio. It always makes me wonder what it sounds like to the ears of someone not very familiar with the band. I will say that IR is the first Janes song since 1.0 that would not make me feel a little awkward If it came on in the car with people that don’t know the band well, but now my history as a fan. I guess Just Because was inoffensive, but I had a lot of friends and family that were like “this is that band you obsess over?”

Perhaps someone can purchase said vinyl and rip True Love?

I’d do it but I’m not seeing them until next month

Yep. They are fucking awesome.

I was tripping my balls off with my best friend when we were 17. He was super into Primal Scream and we had just listened to Screamadelica (which is a fucking amazing record, btw). I then put on Three Days, and he kept saying, is this still the same same song?? Oh my God? This is amazing, is this still the same song??!! He still talks about that experience. It was religious for him :aoa:

Somewhat interesting - the person who mixed imminent chimed in on this forum:

Mixer here.

The band wanted the song loud... so thats how it was mixed. The rough came in very hot, my mix was super hot, as was Chris Gehringer's mastering.

What you're hearing is what the band wanted to release.

How the heck did you find this? And yeah, I think I said in this same thread how I was excited to play it on some nice speakers and it sounded like it did on my phone.

Lol I was searching for that eBay listing of the vinyl to see it for myself and the thread came up on google search. I was curious to say what people outside this forum were saying and lo and behold

What does “hot” mean in this context?
