After seeing P4P in NY in March I thought Perry was unwell. In a natural health way, not drugs. But, after seeing Jane’s on 9/10 and the reactions of the band, I’m going with opioids, mixed at times with too much alcohol. If there was something wrong with him, like a terminal illness (which crossed my mind at the P4P show), I can’t imagine Jane’s touring. It seems like Etty is fine with enabling Perry and keeping the machine moving.Hokahey wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 6:58 pmI’ve sort of talked about this before, but backstage at P4P Perry and Etty seemed isolated from everyone, minus their “people.” Perry looked frail and solemn. Zero smiles. The vibe was so weird I avoided getting on an elevator with them to leave and took the stairs instead. I watched he and Etty walk to their bus alone with him sort of leaning on her as they walked.
It was quite the contrast to the rest of the band, minus Watt. Who was very much just doing his thing. But Perk and Pete and crew were all smiles and good moods. While Perry had the look of someone at a funeral.
Not sure what any of that adds up to. Just my observations.

Re: NEW SONG COMING OUT 18TH SEPTEMBER
I remember this and the incident during the previous tour of Jane's where a couple of shows had to be cancelled. There was talk of some back injury or something. Perry also had several supposedly serious surgeries. These are all situations where one can get back on oxycontin or other heroin-adjacent substances. His drinking also doesn't help. I remember seeing them in 2008 or 2009 an he was also drinking wine throughout the show. If he continued that even for these past 12-14 years then that alone, just the volume of alcoholic poison put in one's system, would seriously impede even a healthy 50 year old man.Hokahey wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 6:58 pmI’ve sort of talked about this before, but backstage at P4P Perry and Etty seemed isolated from everyone, minus their “people.” Perry looked frail and solemn. The lyrics aren't his greatest, though the bit about trying to explain to his friends took me back to Ritual's reminiscences. Lovely singing and playing. Beautiful, soft but insistent drums.
I don't think the structure is that different to original Jane's. Songs like Ocean Size and Mountain Song consist pretty much of standard popular music sections. ABAB, AAA.
Jane's 2.0 has tended to look for soaring choruses more than they used to, though.

Dave reposted the song and made some comment about “the powers that be wanting to monetize the song on YouTube”, but he didn’t care
Just more weirdness

Dave has always been the most punk rock guy in the band, despite being the most Hollywood guy in the band.
Argue amongst yourselves but it’s true.
